Thats what I was gonna use but upgraded to these. These are supossed to be very reliable and can handle more lift.

Did you buy them in a spring kit, or did you buy the springs, locks, retainers, and seats separately? How much was it all together?

Lloyd Elliot did all the work/shopping when he ported my heads. These are what he suggested as an upgrade so we could use a higher lift cam. Those behives are his standard springs and they have been known to cause some issues(valve float, breaking)on higher lift cams but for the most part are pretty good.

these are the sprig rates
Pac 1218 145lbs seated / 340lbs open

Patriot gold extremes 155lbs seated- 400lbs open

The patriots will handle alot more abuse! Thats a hotter cam than mine so I would be going with the patriots!!!!!!!

Did you have to shim your springs at all? I am looking at springs right now, I want the best springs that I can get while not breaking the budget to buy springs, retainers, locks, and seats.

I talked to AI and they said that the lobes of their cams are designed to be used with the 1218 beehives. The Patriot extremes are a superior spring, but they are designed for more radical lobe profiles.

Now my question is, what can lobes/cam are/is considered radical?
Keep in mind that I am modding a stock bottom end and using stock heads.

My puny cam needed the Patriot Golds, the 987's were useless, the older style 918's didn't last, so now the Patriots. Don't know if my small Joe O. cam has aggressive lobes, but at this point I would have to say yes.
