Default Dyno hard on your car?

I've been if-y on taking my car to the dyno because i've heard its hard on your car. Kind of like running on the treadmill for a really fat dude, haha. What do you guys think? hard on your car?

Also, what should it cost just to get it dyno'd? any good shops in the socal area?

I've heard the LT1 was underrated from the factory (esp the 275hp model), what do you guys say?

Around here it will cost anywhere from $60-$100 for three pulls with wideband and a dyno graph printed out.. I don't see why it would be hard on the car, how is it any different from opening it up on the street? A fat guy is gonna have a hard time running on a street or treadmill, only difference is his/car speed gets the breeze and on dyno/treadmill he/car has fan in front.

I'm not sure how much power the stock lt1 puts to the wheels..

a dyno will be the hardest thing you put your car through, the dyno makes resistance harder and harder, the higher your rpm's the harder it is to turn the dyno, not even close to a treadmill, a treadmill is the easiest way to jog cuz the treadmill goes with you, you just have to lift your legs and it practically does the jogging for you thats why its much harder to jog on the street cuz the street is still and your legs push your way forward just like a car on the street, but on a dyno it puts more and more resistance the higher your rpm the harder it is to turn the dyno so its ALOT of stress on the engine, when a car is cruising down the street at 40mph and you floor the throttle it has momentum already so theres not much strain on the engine to push your car forward but a dyno puts resistance against your wheels so it will be the most strain you put your engine through

I believe a mustang dyno applies resistance but a Dynojet does not...not completely sure though

A dyno is not resistance! This is resistance

Even with that explanation, I don't gather how it's any harder than getting on it on the road. You have to factor in your car's drag when going faster, which is going to put resistance on the car, and thus on the drive train.

Go read the other thread for stock dyno numbers, I quoted them again for ya.

i agree it doesn't have as much resistance as on the road, however the mechanism of the dynometer has more on a mustang dyno vs. dynojet

I dont know about the tread mill thing. A treadmill is no easier to run on than the road. The only difference to running on the ground is wind resistance. Running with tail wind = running on a treadmill

Running on a tread mill is easier in terms of actual work. It's been beaten to death in fitness forums over and over. The belt does propel you to a degree so unless you are using a treadmill at an incline you are using less energy.

If it breaks it was going to break eventually, it's not we dont beat on our cars..

Factory rating on my T56 is 450ft/lbs Torque, I'm waiting to see how that one will go on the Dyno when I get back..I've seen plenty of Stock ones take alot more than that.

^^That's the LS1 T56 rating from Tremec, I don't know what the LT1's are, but they may be a little less than that.
