I agree for sure! The car runs great for the amount of miles on it. I'm just taking waiting to move for the last time hopefully before I rip the motor out. I'm thinking about the forged 383 stroket kit, 4340 eagle crank with SRP flat top pistons. I'm thinking that with this setup and a bigger cam I'll be happy. I'm not sure the size cam I can go with with the stock ported and polished heads. I have no clue what they flow. Any ideas on possible #'s for a cam on how big???

FIRST, ditch the big MAF, get a stock on in there. It's cheap but it'll be worth it, nothing compares to the stock MAF.

1. stall/shift kit
2. LTs and ORY

3. After step 2, I'd honestly recommend going through the motor seeing as you have 173k on it. I wouldn't even chance throwing heads or a bigger cam in there before you atleast refreshed the stock block or going 355 or 383. A lot of people do say that a 396 LT1 is a big jump but honestly I haven't heard much fact to back up those statments.

4. Depending on the route you want to go, streetable or not, honestly an off the shelf, Comp, A.I., or Elliot cam would be great. Comp makes great cams, A.I. makes great H/C setups and so does Elliot. (and just an FYI the HotCam is a great cam! It's been proven time and time again, granted it's not very big but such a strong cam. My buddy ran a 12.8 @ 111mph with a 1.97 60' on 19" wheels!)

If you want to get serious do a sheet metal intake and solid roller motor. That'd definately get peoples attention...lol.

5. Once you start making all that power you're going to need to put it to the ground. 9" or S60.

That would be a rather quick car. Take it a step at a time, sounds like you're about ready for a bottom end with those miles.
dude i love your avatar it cracks me up, my parents have a bottle of that in the bathroom and everytime i see it and think 'i wish my car was opti free '

Sorry i have no clue, but what is this sheet metal intake your talking about???? I have the shift kit installed already, that was a crazy first ride. that bitch slaps you back hard as hell. I was amazed how hard it slapped out back in the seat. I want to slap a 2800 stall in as well. I had the tranny completly rebuilt considering when I was young and dump I tore the hell out of it. Let's put it this way it wouldn't shift out of 2nd, Lol! It has 3:73 gears in it for now but I was thinking a moser 12" or the ford 9". Anyways let me know

Welcome to the site. A 383 would be a good build, and from the mileage you have, it would be good to start piecing something together slowly so when you do decide to build it, you have everything.

a sheet metal intake is used primarily for a drag setup it opens up the constricted LT1 intake and allows for major airflow increases along with helping with nitrous applications and what not.

like i said though this is if you really want to go all out and seriously race the car.

here's a thread showing a few.

WOW! Now those intakes are impressive looking. I've never seen them before. Is there a site for these some where becasue I didn't see it posted???? Most likely would have to up the fuel injectors from the 32 lbs to something more associated with that amount of air correct?
