Default Header install was a breeze... heat cycle?

Finally got my pacesetter LT's on... ive was hearing from many people that it was going to be a tough job, but it was simple!! didnt even have to take starter or oil filter out or even unbolt motor mounts, they just slipped right up. knocked it out in about 90 min. I have the cermaic coated headers and heard it is good to heat cycle them for a certain amount of time. Is this true at all?

Congratulations man, this was on an LT1 vehicle?

I've heard about something like that for painted headers, just because the paint burns off pretty quick. However, not for ceramic. Think you're good to just drive 'em.

Heat cycling is what happens when your engine gets up to operating temperature and then comes back down. Some people just heat cycle in the driveway a few times and then tighten their bolts up. Other people just drive it normally and then tighten them up. It's the same thing either way, as the gaskets compress the bolts can back out so just make sure you stay on top of them for a while.

I just got my headers in earlier this week and after driving it 4 times they have barely backed out at all. Better safe than sorry though.

Also, 90 minutes? How the hell did you pull that off?

No ****, I'd love to see how long it would take to do a cam swap! (I'm jealous!) But as far as the ceramic coating goes, I have had two cars with them on it and just drove normally after install and checked header bolts if any backed out at all. The coating was fine.

the 90 minutes was only to INSTALL the headers and put everything back on, once the old exhaust was taken off (which took a lot longer than 90 min. )

Do I need to even recheck my bolts since they are the Percy's Locking Header Bolts, or will I be ok?

edit: I have the Percy's seal-4-good gaskets on it too

I'm curious.. did you do your install on a lift, or did you have the car way off the ground by other means? Or what?

Oh ok, that makes a hell of a lot more sense. My driver's side header literally fell into place and once I jacked up the passenger side of the engine a little the passenger fit right in too.

You should still check the bolts even if they are locking bolts just to be on the safe side.

If you jack it up you'll be fine.
