Default Dacco converter?

Has anybody used these? I have never heard of it but my local Cottman Transmission man who is redoing my 97 T/A's rearend with a Moser 9" claims Dacco converters are the Cadillac of converters... Is he completely full of crap? lol thanks for the advice

If not the Dacco, I was thinking PCI 3200 Stall or a YANK SS 3200 Stall

Let me know.
Thanks,
Marc

I've used to use them years back. Could never get one to stay together. Had some friends use them with the same results. If you are dropping that kind of cash into your car, save just a bit more and purchase a unit from one the board sponsers. If a verter comes apart, it will cost you much more than what you might have saved on the cheeper converter. It contaminates the entire transmission with debris and it will need a rebuild.

I used a dacco for a while in my TH-350 and it was fine. I ran mid 11's with the car for about a year. Converter is still fine, car is just down for some upgrades.

The 12" units are available for well under $100 but shops like to pretend they are good and sell them for $250.

There are a few guys on the Impala boards that use them and admit they are throw aways but since they are SO cheap if you find an honest source they figure they can buy a handfull of them instead of one good one. They just have not lost a tranny due to the failure YET. Basically Dacco is bottom of the barrel, cheapest you can buy meant for grocery getters. The "high stall" converters guys will try and sell are V6 converters that the V8 torque forces to a higher stall.

I like Edge, but would not hesitate to use a Yank or Vigilante(precision).

Go with the Yank, but you'll want more than 3200.

Yeah Dacco's are ok for stockers I used a 4000 stall in a drag car I had and had no issues. But they are more of a mass produced item.

Well the fact that he told me they were top of the line kind of scared me... lol especially when he said he would only charge a couple hundred for one... I'm like umm.. don't you usually get what you pay for kinda in some sense? Would rather drop $800 or so on a Yank or Vigilante

Yank and Vig you are paying a premium for a billet cover which is overkill and pretty much the only reason they cost so much more than Edge. Not badmouthing IMO both are good converters.

Default dacoo no good

i work at aamco transmissions we use dacco on all our builds good for stock not good for racing i seen several times people want a high stall and in a couple weeks we end up pulling the unit back out because dacco performance is poor quality they heat up fast and fall apart on street use. the biggest you can get from them and still retain lock up is 2500 stall and thats a damn 12" converter

that is along the lines of what i was told by my mechanic as well who specializes in the 4L60 and 4L60E's.

he said edge is the way to go for performance and cost.

so just as soon as i get enough money saved up an edge verter is going in my car as well

I am probably going to get the Yank SS 3600 though.. I mean I trust the guy at the shop.. good guy.. but I don't want to risk anything being broken..

It's the same way with my rearend.. My spring break project is getting either a Moser 9" or 12 bolt rear end assembly so I can do it once, done right, with quality parts, so I will hopefully never have to do it again. Granted the car will have the crap completely beaten out of it at the track this summer... I still have good faith in her though.. Best purchase I have ever made in my opinion.

I'm willing to spend more the first time around if I won't have to do the same work over and over again.

I used a Dacco in an old LT1 car. I went through 3 on a bolt on car. Then I went to Vig and still have that same converter , 3 years later.

oh and on a sidenote i have been beating the bag out of my stock 10 bolt prolly 75 - 100 passes in the past two years 2.0 60ft the first year and 1.70 60ft's the 2nd year (this past year) and she is still running strong making 0 noises and complaints

gotta love being light, making only 300rwhp, and having an automatic

I'll drink to that.. I'm starting with the rearend due to my goals to finish the car.. bottom end/top end/blower... but we'll see how that goes.. I am 18 so most of my money will be focused into my college account so it might be awhile. I plan to keep the car for a long time though.. I love it to death
