definetly possible on an engine dyno but not rwhp , you have to take in to acount drivetrain loss .and getting 280 rw from a 285hp engine stock wouldnt happen.

I thought the 96-97 were rated at ~305bhp.

Well I just got back from the dyno and I am quite pleased. The car made 277rwhp and 297 rwtq. Everyone at the shop was pretty impressed considering how few mods I have done to the car.

Just wanted to let everyone know what the actual outcome was.

Being is he possibly had hardened pushrods and 1.6 roller rockers. And sounds like some exhaust work. I say thats a decent number. unfortunately we dont know if it was set to sae or uncorrected or corrected

It was set at STD not SAE. So assuming that you pull ~2-3% for the difference between STD and SAE I should still be around 268-272 rwhp.

I was intending to buy headers, but I had to have my head gaskets replaced this week (stupid #2 plug). So maybe this raised my compression ever so slightly and gave me a couple more on top of the rocker arms and cat-back. The gasket was supposed to be around the same compressed thickness as the stock one, but can't verify if it was exactly the same... could have been a little thinner.

I also changed the plugs and wires from the stock setup to low resistance Taylors and NGK TR55s, I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Maybe my car is on the strong side of the LT1 range from the factory speaking. I dunno, but I was surprised by the results of the dyno though.

Don't forget the almighty airfoil....j/k.

its a bigger difference then that from STD to SAE, for examply, a buddy dyno'd 348STD, SAE correction makes it 333, it's about 4.5% which puts you around 265ish, which is still dam respectable. Then you have the dynojet factor which they always read higher. But again a dyno is only a tool, don't ever get worked up on the numbers, its nice to have a baseline to see your improvements but the track and street is truly the measure of the cars power since every dyno is different

Probably at some point but lot of other things going on right now before I will get around to doing though. Before I do that, I would like to have some more things done on my car. At least headers and a tune. Who knows when I will get around to getting that stuff done.

Overall though I am very pleased with the numbers I got. My biggest concern was that the car was going to be grossly off par (eg <230 rwhp range). If that had happened I would have reconsidered whether it was worth modding or should I try to find a better running firebird. It makes me feel a lot better since the numbers are what they are as I haven't driven any other LT1s to have a SOTP comparison.

Man that's a higher hp rating than my M6 was and I had about the same mods (minus RR's and add shorties)
