Help me decide on a cheap rear...
Alright I wanna do something soon, the 10 bolts not gonna last 2 much longer... What would be the lightest choice with least amount of parasitic loss, and cheapest rear end? I'm thinking a 9 inch with a spool, correct? Or would a 12 bolt suit my needs alright?

its not but least expensive of all companies would work lol the s60 is cheap but if u think about it the midwest fab 9" weighs about the same as the 10 bolt and it comes with a chromoly torque arm and u can get a driveshaft upgrade with it for und $3k add the cost of those things with any other rear and they r more expensive

I didn't mean cheap, I know I'm gonna be over 2 grand easy, but I wanna stay as close to that as possible... The D60 is cheaper than the 9 inch? I thought they were a little more, aren't they stronger but heavier than a nine inch?

you could do a stock rear with axles and a studded cover with mikronite gears, thats what im doing next, but mines auto.
a 12 bolt would be your next best as it only takes something like 10% to turn, and 19% with a 9", dont quote me, its been a while since i read the article on it in Chevy High Performance.
for performance rear, a 12 bolt is what i would go with, but thats only me.

I've chucked a 10 bolt already on stock power, and my car sees just as much track time as it does street time.... Plus I plan on a turbo ls1 after this motor goes...

here is a link where it shows how you can get a complete bolt in 9 inch for $1,917 using the best quality parts, price includes some labor too. http://www.lt1howto.com/articles/diy9inch.htm

I put a 9" in my car for well under $1500.
I used a new housing and axles from Moser. I bought a used 9" chunk for $50 from an old racer. It's the non-desireable cast iron one, but still much stronger than a 7.5". Then, I put a new set of gears, limited slip, and bearings in it. Cheap and strong!
