For those following the progress of my LT1 woes here's the latest. It started this morning and idled..I d/c the MAF and tried to drive it. No go. Died 100 feet out of the driveway. So I reconnected the MAF. Same result. When it does run it pulls strong and sounds good. When it doesn't, it doesn't hit a lick..other than turning over fine. I've ohm'ed the opti connectors and it tested good. I can't even keep it idling now long enough to shake cables and connectors looking for a problem. Still no check engine light either. Suggestions??

Ok, im not one to blame everything on the opti but what brand did you get and where did you get it?
But if everything else is checking in then that may be it. Before buying another one though i would definitly check all of your grounds etc.

Do you know anyone else with a functioning LT1? You could try swapping the ICM & coil for a quick test.

It came from "all ignition" off ebay. I really didn't want to think about the distributor again, but you might be right. Just trying to eliminate everything else first...especially since I just put this one in. I bet it doesn't have 500 miles on it.

Scam Artists!

I would replace the distributor with a genuine AC Delco or Delphi opti quick. You can get them from "thepartsladi" on Ebay for like $255 + shipping.

What's your opinion of an aftermarket distributor or converting away from the opti completely??

I have only seen a few applications that can actually get rid of the opti completely. Atempting to run a HEI distributor at the rear of the intake will still require a functioning opti to serve as the cam sensor for the injectors. To get rid of the opti completely, you have to fabricate a cam sensor inside the HEI distributor.

Just get a genuine AC Delco or Delphi opti and call it a day.

Since I feel I've exhausting my trouble-shooting options I've submitted a request to the vendor I purchased the opti from (Oct-08 less than 500 miles on it) for a replacement unit. We'll see what happens.

Dude, if the opti you purchased is (and I assure you it is) a piece of crap, the replacement unit is going to be a piece of crap. Do yourself a favor, cut your losses and buy a AC Delco or Delphi opti and call it a day.

They offer an ac delco/delphi upgrade, don't you think that would be a better investment? I just don't have another $250 right now. The one I had was a $129 unit off ebay.

No, it will be a waste of money. Any "genuine" OEM opti listed for anything under 230ish is not genuine at all...it's a scam. Wait until you have the money and buy a real OEM opti.

I'm not sure if you were aware of the other threads on this board relating to "All Ignition" opti problems, but these were from a few months back. If you already knew about the problems ignore my post.

Damn! I wish I had known. I called them and got a RA #, but I may still just get one from "thepartsladi" instead. I hear good things about that supplier. Lesson learned I guess, we'll see what happens. Thanks

I've decided to trash the all ignition unit after all the horror stories and I just ordered a NEW OEM unit from thepartsladi. Spoke them on the phone, very helpful and should have it Friday, also ordered a new opti harness ($29) since my orginial had a broken clip at the opti. Wish I had never seen the all ignition unit...live and learn..

Sounds like you are on the right path my friend. Even if it doesn't fix your problem it will have saved you a headache in the future. Don't forget to thread lock the rotor screws, one at a time.

Just wanted to update my thread. I ended up getting a new delphi (OEM) opti from thepartsladi. I called those guys and explained my problem and they were very helpful. Got the opti really quick. Also ordered a new opti harness for good measure. After install it is running perfectly, so I'll keep my fingers crossed. Many thanks to those who responded for my plea for help!

Word of advice: Do your research before you buy anything! I pretty much wasted about $200 bucks on a piece of s$%t opti before I saw the light. not to mention all the downtime and wrench time...

Hope this helps somebody.
