Rod and Piston suggestions?
Rod and Piston suggestions? I am planning on rebuilding my LT1 and I am deffinitely planning on forged 6" rods and forged flat top pistons with 2 valve reliefs.

and my question is what is the difference between the pistons that say they are for a 383 and the ones that are for a 355 if they both are 4.030 bores then whats the difference? Clearences for rods or something?

so i should run one that says its for a 383 even if its just on a standard crank for now, if there is a possibilty that I buy a stroker crank later?
also does anyone have any other reccomendations on what brand to run? if I run spray on this setup is there a specific piston I need to look for or is spray only critical to determining ring gap?

okay i see what your saying. I thought the pin postition would be the same for a 6'' rod 355 as a 6'' rod 383.
What size nitrous shot are you wanting to run? You can run a 383 piston on a stock crank but you shouldn't nor should you want to. You would be better off buying a Scat 9000 3.75 crank for $200 if you can't afford a nice forged piece. What are your engine goals?

stroke determines compression height. running them 355 pistons with a 383 crank it will push the piston out of the block (well not all the way) So decide what you want to do and buy the parts for that combo. Not a big fan of the long rod combos either. I say use the shortest rod that clears the stroke. Keeps piston speed down ( especially if you are running a higher rpm motor)
