Rear end going out?!

well, i bought them from a fellow member, which i have no complaint about of course. But i bought them before i knew the difference in gears. I cant remember if my rear is a 2 or 3 series carrier. it came with factory 2.73's

It sounds like the pinion is loose. Gm 7.5-7.6 yokes are famous for spinning against the front bearing and making the pinion loosen up.
In the last few years Richmond has changed there laping process and sence then the noise problems have gone away.

sounds like another improperly setup rear end, you should never hear alot of gear whine from any set of gears, sounds like they are setup with wayyy to much backlash, the #1 cause of 10bolt failure

well, i went to my mechanic today, and told him what was going on. He said for to take the cover off and check everything. I asked him if he could do it, but he was to busy. So i was going to try and to it today, but its only a high of 36 degrees outside, so im staying my *** inside. When it gets warmer i will get outside and mess with it.

I could be wrong but it sounds like an issue with your pinion preload. If the pinion nut isnt tight enough you'll get a howling noise when slowing down. This is because the pinion gear is getting sucked slightly closer into mesh.
When you accelerate the gears do the opposite and want to push themselves apart. If you get the car to your mechanic, make sure when he pulls it all apart and puts it back together that he uses a dial wrench (for rotational torque) to get the pinion nut tight enough.
Good luck, 10-bolts suck. Ive blown mine twice in 4 years on a near stock LT1.
