Angry Rear end going out?!

I cannot begin to explain how frustrated i am right now . For about a week now i've noticed my rear end make queit a bit of noise. I know that most of it is from the richmond gears. But, now it seems like the howling is getting louder. I've also noticed that when im shifting from park to reverse, i hear a pop, the same when i shift from reverse to drive. The howling really seems to get loud when i decelerating. Any thought guys?

I would change/check the fluid in it before doing anything else.

check the fluid.

but i am willing the bet it needs new bearings.
my jeep did this AFTER i added about a pint of fluid, it got super loud and i rebuilt it with new bearings and seals, and had to replace a spider gear and it is dead quiet.

bearing kits are cheap, and lash doesnt have to be set. there is a special tool to make installing the carrier bearings much easier, but thats it.

very funny merv. I cant help it! there too sexy.

well, my next question would be this. My mechanic installed the gears in april of this year. I gave him a complete rebuild kit. He said the only thing he had to replace where the seals. He said that the bearings looked like new so he didnt bother with them. Could they have gone bad in that short amount of time?

If the Crush Nut came loose then that could lead to problems..personally if I have new Bearings, I put them in while I'm there. Regardless of how they looked, you are paying him to do the Job, and he should have done it IMO..

i wouldnt have taken the car back if you bought bearings for it and the "mechanic" said they looked good cleaned up. sounds like he wanted a quick dollar with minimal work.

So I'm not the only one with Richmonds that sound like an air raid is going off inside the car?

I had mine installed over the summer. Had it at the track and the gears are still quite loud. I think it's because the straight cut. Noisy!

Let us know how you make out.
