Default What did I do wrong

Ok here goes, I swapped out my zz-409 cam for a stock cam drivability and fuel reasons. Upon turning it on the car idled fine then when i tried to give it gas it starts to backfire really loud. could it be that i adjusted the RR wrong. i took the pcm to get flased back to stock setting so i dont think that would be the problem. help please

plugs/wires good?, another thing is that the computer could be relearning itself from install, do you have larger fuel injectors?

it could be checking a ton of diagnostics on the car, same thing happens with a new battery, did you drive the car at all since this happened, it could also be that the reflash didnt go well.

sounds like a timing issue to me could be either mechanical or ignition.

Well you are on the right track since you are willing to admit you may be at fault. Seen a lot of guys fight admitting that possibility and waste a lot of time and money as a result.

The mechanical timing concern is one I share, but easier to check would be the rocker adjustment. How did you find zero lash?

Check your spark plug wires, sounds like you have one or two crossed

^^From what I know you'd have to pull timing cover to check timing. This is just a thought but if you indeed had dots lines correctly you might have had #6 at TDC instead of #1. Someone let me know if this correct or possible.

Surly you pulled the wires off the opti end right? Check to make sure they are correct, seen guys spend a lot of money trying to fix what turned out to be mixed up plug wires. Every last one of us has made a silly mistake like that.

The only way to really check the Dots is to pull the Timing Cover off..
