Default ? about cam swap

I want to install a CC503 this spring. Can I get away with just changing the valve spring? Or would I have to change the pushrods, locks, retainers, etc? I am on a very small budget. Thanks!

+2...do it all at the same time. I would change out the timing chain as well and maybe even throw on a new Opti depending on how old yours is. Better to do it all at the same time rather then having to tear back into it

ya, if you can't afford to do it wright, wait till you can,or it will give you problems...

i don't see roller rockers on you'r list. you really don't want to put a cam in without a set of RR.

performance cam installs are only beneficial if you use the complimenting componets:
gaskets
hardened pushrods
guide plates
roller rockers 7/16
7/16 studs
new valve springs
new valve seals
new timing chain
these things just work with each other, matched durability!

would you use a condom knowing it had a hole in it?
would you reuse the same condom?

the larger cam will cause more friction in the rocker arms and cause more heat wich wont be good for your now 13 year old motor. not to mention you'r going to need a tune too,
if I were you,I would just get the rockers now and wait on the cam till you can do it wright...just my 2 cents

^^ Yup don't need the guide plates if you run the self aligning rockers. If you run guide plates with the self aligning rockers they can wear your pushrods down real quick

guide plates are needed for NSA roller rockers. i put that list together for the upgraded componets that will be most durable..SA roller rockers are ok but if you plan to add more cam or higher rpm you will run into problems with them so why not upgrade 1 time........

CC503 with 1.6 RR VS. Hotcam kit - How much of a difference would there be in track times (with the mods in sig)? I know that the CC503 would have a little more horsepower but I am more interested in track times, not HP numbers.

With equal setups the cc503 will make the car faster than the hotcam. How much? I dont know exactly but I'd say a solid .2 or so and 2mph. With your 3200 stall and 4.10's the cc503 would be a better choice.

Just throwing this out there... I had 1.6 RRs installed and after a few 1000mi, i took them off to adjust them and found 2 broken pushrods! There weren't any symptoms either! Since then, I put in hardened and they're fine.

Do what I did...I am running the CC503 in my '97 SS.

CC503
CC Promagnum 1.6 NSA rr's - part # 1305-16
TF Chromemoly pushrods - part # 21407xxx (last three digits correlate to specific pushrod length, mine was 7.2")
TF guideplates - part # 30400623-8
ARP 7/16" rocker arm studs - part # 134-7103
Comp 918 beehive springs w/ seats, locks, & retainers (I used the Crane 10308 dual valve spring kit)
new valve seals
new timing set

You will also have to add the cost of fluids, gaskets, rtv, thread locker, etc.

How many people have broken stock pushrods before? Doesnt seem likely unless you run it hard alot or you did something else wrong.

I would never run stock pushrods with an aftermarket cam, stronger springs, and 1.6 rr's.
