Default "Low Coolant" light

Just bought a '96 T/A and the low coolant light is on, i have checked it and added and rechecked and checked again and its fine but the light is still on...any ideas? could it just be a sensor? if it is, where is the sensor located?

Low coolant sensor has went bad in both of my fbodys, it is a common problem. It is located next to the battery on the back of the radiator. It has a little clip that holds it on and just pulls out.
Costs around 45 bucks at O Reillys.

Very common problem - the sensor gets dirty easily and then triggers the low coolant light. You can take it out and clean it, or just ignore it and monitor your coolant level manually like you should anyway...it is not tied to the ecu and will not set any codes.

Thanks guys. if its that easy to replace then i will most likely just get another one. Or can i really clean it and save myself $45? or will it jsut be a reoccuring problem?

sounds like it is a reoccuring thing to me, i cleaned mine a few times and it kept going on so i just disconnected it and keep my eye on the level every couple weeks. I say just disconnect that thing, it gets annoying.

Like everyone else said, it's a really common problem. Mine started coming back on just before I put it away for the winter. I'll be unplugging it this spring...Heres a write up from shbox.com that will help you out though. http://shbox.com/1/low_coolant2.jpg If you haven't already, you should check that site out. It's just full of info on our cars.

So if I pull the sensor is it going to pour fluid out? How did you guys just unplug the sensor if it says to drain the fluid below the sensor?

If you want to retain the functionality of the sensor with minimal mess, pull it out and real quick put the new one in.

just unplug it and leave the sensor in there. I'll probably be doing this to mine soon.

easiest fix is to unplug the wire connector..a new sensor will sooner or later do the same thing and with a track record like that how can you trust it anyway?its the little sensor that cried wolf

Ok so i still haven't done this but when I unplug it is the sensor going to go off, because I would think it would stay on since it wouldnt think the sensor was even there.

It won't harm anything to unplug it. The dash light won't work, that's all. The sensor is not connected to the computer in any way.
