Default now what????

so i go outside to start my car today and i tried turning it over several times. i already knew i had noisy valve problems it makes my car hard to start when its cold outside. so i tried turning it over once again and all i heard was a loud whirring or humming like something spinning real fast...does this mean i just blew my engine because if so im thru with it...

Yeah, I highly doubt your motor blew from you trying to start it.

Sounds like your starter blew b/c the loud fast whirr is most likely a disconnect (read break) before the gear on the starter.

more than likely your starter. i'll bet your armature isn't getting pushed out, making the starter motor is spinning really fast because it doesn't have to crank your engine. if it sounds like that kind of noise, pop that bad boy off and have it tested at a parts store.

I dont have any pics but there are two bolts holding it in and then you need to remove the wires from the cylinoid.
If you have a 96 or 97 model you may have to remove your Y pipe.

Courtesy of shbox.

That's the wires that you have to disconnect and there are only two bolts holding it to the block its pretty straight forward. And definitely un hook the battery negative terminal.
