You don't want to sacrifice reliability for price, especially when it comes to the valvetrain.

The Crane 10308 dual kit has been proven and (if you're not using the LT4 hotcam) is the best bang for the buck spring, retainer, locks, and seat kit. I used them with my XE 236/242 with fantastic results.

If you can't afford to buy a quality set of springs and hardware, I suggest you save. Or find someone willing to sell a gently used set.

I've got some brand new in box 918 beehives, seats, locks, retainers, valve stem seals, and comp hardened pushrods I'd sell you for $300 shipped if you're interested. I paid around $370 for all of it through Summit just a couple months ago. I've decided that I want to go with the Patriot set because they can handle some more lift than the Beehives, and I'm going to need it since I'll be running whatever cam I get on 1.7RR's.

I'm running the Crane 10308 dual spring kit with my CC503 set up. If I hadn't found a NIB kit for sale, I would have bought the CC 918 beehives with seats, locks, and retainers. Springs are one of the last places you want to skimp on.

These are the same springs I just sold him, and that's the same thing I told him about not skimping.

Man price doesn't matter didly!!! Just chiming in that I recenlty ordered a new custom grind for my 383 from Lloyd Elliot and needed to replace my AFR springs. I thought I was gonna have to spend a fortune but it turns out Lloyd recc'd a set of Howards 98441 (dual springs) and I'll admit I've never heard of them, but Lloyd highly recc'd them for my spring setup to get the seat pressure I was needing. These things were only $89 (brand new) ordered from Competition Products, and I doubt Lloyd would recc crappy or cheap springs. Just my 2 cents, so don't get hung up on a high priced spring as it is probably over priced to begin with.
