does anyone make tubular front bumper supports?

looking to remove my bumper support but dont want the front to sag.

azzsmasher69 01-11-2009 10:45 AM

94 camaro btw

robsquikz28 01-11-2009 02:50 PM

how would the front end sag when removing the bumper support it will look the same after removal but i would recommed to never let some1 sit on the front bumper....if you want just remove the clamshell but leave the brace or like i have done before for peeps just cut several chunks out of the brace and leave the middle part of the brace alone so it still does something rather than nothing as a crash support

Burkhart Chassis(sponsor, I think) made up a few...I THINK they started to mass-produce them to sell..You'll have to ask them.

joelster 01-11-2009 04:55 PM

Yes it will sag a bit with nothing under there. It will flatten a bit at high speeds too. Burkhart makes one, but it's only for a Firebird or a Trans/Am. I'm not sure how much modification would be required to make it fit the f-bod front end.

Here it is:

Yes they are a sponsor, here is their link:

Damn I think you just gave me a reason to take out my bumper supports! :)

flyinZ 01-11-2009 05:45 PM

I dont know if they ever made up a set for a camaro, or not. Have to ask..If not, now would be a good time to make a set. :)

the bumper would probably look like shit after a year of sagging without the foam supporting it. fck that. seen 3rd gens do it b4.

RamAir95TA 01-11-2009 06:06 PM

With a welder and some steel stock it wouldn't be difficult to make your own.

Few layers of 1.75 oz fiberglass on the backside of the bumper would solve that

GIZMO 01-11-2009 08:43 PM

You could always make a new bumper from aluminum and attach the stock foam to it.

taner 01-11-2009 09:46 PM

my car is living proof it WON'T sag.

Hot Copper Z 02-11-2009 12:42 PM

Here's one that me and my buddies made for my car. We made some extras to sell and we have sold two already.
It weighs around 9lbs and is made out of chrome moly. Here is the link.https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-raci...r-support.html

How much?

Hot Copper Z 02-11-2009 01:07 PM

$250.00 shipped and they are powder coated in black.

blackz6sp 02-11-2009 03:52 PM

Now whats the weight difference between factory bumper and support and your tubular peice?

Hot Copper Z 02-11-2009 04:06 PM

The factory support weighs around 29lbs and the piece we made is 9lbs about a 3rd the weight,a whole lot lighter, stronger and made of chrome moly.

flyinZ 02-11-2009 05:35 PM

looks like a stout piece. I wonder if that is as strong or stronger than the factory piece, if you were in a fender bender? (low mph of course) Just a thought..

I used three small strips of aluminum between the airdam and where the bumper cover snaps in.
Nose looks just fine. I just don't see any reason for a full tubular streel/CM frame under there.
At the very most, an aluminum hoop with an angled support under it.

Having said that, I've seen vids of card with no support whatsoever that do sag under acceleration.
