Is it the Opti once again? I was driving home from work when my car lost almost all its power. Switching gears and more throttle did nothing. Rpm's went to almost nill. My oil pressure crapped with the rpm's so I shut her down and coasted to the side of the road. I tried starting a couple of times. One time she fired right up and shut right back down. After that it didn't start for a while. Then my friend started it and it ran for a bit. He was even revving a little. The oil pressure was strong and she ran smooth as silk. Then he got to about 3000 rpm's and the engine died again. I just had it towed after that. Does this sound like an opti? Its been running great. Just died and doesn't like starting again. I replaced the opti less than 10,000 miles ago but it was a Summit brand. If it is the opti I'm going to be a little miffed. Help?
well it sounds like the opti but how hard have you drove it since replacement? i would back track all connections and spark plug wires. and if it turns to be the opti you may want to try the MSD model it`s just like the delteq replacement opti.(delteq doesn`t offer the replacement opti anymore) or the coil pack system they offer http://www.delteq.com/opti_pricing.htm it cost but it will work.

Changed the ICM and coil and that didn't do anything. It's been running and driving. But every once in a while it just stops and won't restart for a bit. You come back later and it starts right up and drives great. Power is all there. I bought the summit opti and thought being a new unit it would work well. Maybe I was wrong. I can hear the fuel pump kick on but no idea on fuel pressure otherwise. Any other suggestions? Or is it opti time?

Summit brand...I bought a JEGS brand opti once (in my uneducated days), felt like it was running well, but it failed after two weeks, just died on the freeway. Replaced it with a oem AC Delco (Delphi is the same) and it worked better than before.
Not to jack this thread, but what's the expected life of an original Opti?
Mine has 74,000, and I'm wondering if I should invest in a new one when I put my new heads on. (I've never had any issues with it)

Don't fix what ain't broke. I believe most people swap out an Opti because they think the design sucks (although how a rotor/cap based distributor running hundreds of thousands of miles without a cap or rotor change is a bad design, I don't get.) I would look at wires first and second before touching the Opti

Verdad Gallardo If you have the money, I would buy a genuine AC Delco or Delphi opti to keep in storage until you need it. You can get one from "thepartsladi" on Ebay (research them, you'll find it's legit) for ~$255 plus shipping.

The entire ignition as of right now is new and has less than 10,000 miles on it. This shutting of thing is really a pain in my rear as I never know if its going to run great or just shut off on me.
