Default heads ?

hey guys i got a local machine shop sayin he can port and polish my heads and a valve job for $450. does this sound like a fair price. he said he would make them flow 250 no problem. i dont know much about port work so what do yall think. i planning on running a cc306 or something in that nature

That does sound like a good deal. Remember velocity is just as important as head flow. A cylinder head ported correctly opposed to a cylinder head hogged out usually makes better power. Make sure he is reputable.

That sounds like a great price. Do some research on him first.

Experience does not always make for improvement in skills.
I'd check out cars he's work on previously and see how they do.
Take into consideration the rest of their combos, but certainly look for a solid history of good results.
It doesn't take much to really screw up a head.

250cfm isn't terribly impressive either.
Check this guy out, he does all of my headwork -> http://www.elliottsportworks.com/lt1.html

This time of year, a week or two. You can give him a call and get an estimate if you like. Lloyd's a great guy to talk to.
You go from stanger on the phone to feeling like you've known him for years in no time at all LOL
Lloyd Elliott <nighttrain66@msn.com>; (972)617-5671
The man will get you hooked up with heads (and cam if you want one) optimized for your setup and goals.

I previously had LE2 heads with a 22x/23x cam. His new vavlejobs easily
outperform what I had back then, but it was enough to power my full-weight
car to an 11.89 on a stock bottom end. (link to vid and mod details in sig)

My new 383 build has LE-ported Dart 180 castings and a custom 23x/24x grind
that should exceed the numbers the LE3 guys are putting down. I'll be at
Ed Wright's for dyno tuning on the 30th.

Yea thats pretty cheap. We have a sportsmans package which consist of mild port work, valvejob, resurface, and set spring tension for 600. We are tring to get a website going. www.gofastmotors.com. I think its just the homepage right now. They arent quite finished building the site yet.

You get what you pay for (in theory) but there are reputable shops out there (like Mustang Specialities down here in south Florida) that have been doing stuff like this for 45+ years and they only charge like <$500 and they have cars out of that shop running 6's and 5's in the 1/4 mile lol
