Default best price on crate motors/LT4 package

I could swear I saw a Vette LT1 service motor for $2100 or around there a while back, no intake, accessories, etc, basically just the long block. Am I crazy? Also the LT4 package (intake heads, HotCam) who has it the cheapest, and would it better to go with a set of AFRs, port the stock LT1 (possible TPIS BigMouth/MiniRam) and "custom cam?" I'm talking baout bang for the buck. Would like to keep everything around $5000, including selling off extra parts (LT1 heads off crate motor/longblock)
Thanks guys

anyone else?
I saw the Scoggin Dickey LT1 short for $1749 in a GMHTP, what about that, some AFR 195s or 210s, and LT4 intake, and maybe the HotCam package? Very do-able in that $5k range, what about the power, how much over 400 would this set-up be? Sorry, don't know a whole lot about LT1s, so please tolerate my newbie-like questions!

Economy says port the stock LT1 heads. They'll flow better than a stock set of LT4 heads. And MUCH Cheaper than AFRs. Get a Comp 305 or 306 cam, and go w/ some 1.6 RRs and Hooker or Jet hot Long tubes.

after posting, I read up on the AFRS, and the general concensus says they are good to get only if you are porting them. So stick with the LT1 heads and port them, not LT4s?

Sounds exactly like my set up. Comp Cam (305 if I remember) and ported/polished stock heads with crane double valve springs and associated shims, locks, retainers. I also stepped up the rocker arms to Comp Cams pro magnum 1.6's. Good for Mid-12's on a 3400lbs car.

shortblock is minus heads, (cam) all accessories. Longblock is complete minus very few items If you saw a longblock for that price, let me know where, I want it!!
