383 lt1 hp?

I was just talking to someone at a machine shop the other day who had just put one in.
No LT4 hot cam in my 383. I'm not sure why people still use the LT4 hot cam when there is better stuff out there...this girl didn't go that route. I had a few friends help me with this build and did some research of my own. Try to think about what you want out of the car and set a goal for it.
Def go with a bigger cam...mines a 383 LT4 and I def went with a bigger custom cam from Bret @ Bauer Racing. Great customer service!

Car sounds like a beast..no numbers yet as I have a few things to tie up on the car but should be good for over 400 rwhp.

well, you all will be happy to know, I took all of your advise(mainly ss.slp.ls1 and 96capricemgr, for making me feel like a dumbass for even thinking about using an lt4 hot cam

Where in this thread does anyone recommend the CC503 for a 383? That cam is widely reknown as being the best cam for stock heads (XE lobes, 224/230, .502/.510 112 LSA). If you're using ported LT4s on a 383, the 503 is still small considering what you COULD run. You need more duration and more lift to take advantage of the cubes and stroke, plain and simple, if you're mentality is "more power can't hurt."
You might want to take mine and OutlawZ's additional advice with the XE236/242 if you don't want a custom grind (even still, a custom grind is the best case scenario). It's an off-the-shelf profile that is also proven in bigger displacement motors.
Like I mentioned, there's a short video clip of it in my signature if you're interested.

Not to take away from 96 or slp, but you need some supplemental information...

Now where did I mention to use the CC503...that is what I am using in my cam-only 350.
At first I told him to get a custom grind. I told him min would be a 23x/23x. I told him to go big and take Outlaw's advice with the 236/242. I even linked him a bigger cam, a 242/248.
That's what sucks about not planing out your build wisely, taking your budget into your account. Odd are you could have build a 355 with a better top end that will out run your 383 when you finish it.

I don't know what would be your best bet for a cam choice in a 383 with stock heads. I would still probably give Lloyd a call and see what he says.

I would still think a 230/236 grind would still work well on a 383 w/ stock heads. The bigger cubes help tame the cam down. It would be like running a 220/226(roughly) on a 350. I think Power should peak at 6000-6200 rpm.
That is exactally why I chose the cc503. I have no idea about the quality of the heads, and I wanted to play it safe. Later on when I get some better heads, i'll let you guys argue over which cam I should use then
Yeah, an Ai 230/236 cam would probably be good. Hell, I'd run a CC306 if I was him.
I am running a slightly larger cam on a 383 231/239 with untouched stock heads. It seems to have quite a bit of power. Future plans are to port the heads however, so this may be completely unimportant to the op.
