Has anyone removed their parking brake assembly along with the parts on the rear brakes? Curious on this and approx how much weight was taken off. Also will an auto car pass tech without a parking brake?

i am assuming that you are auto because the ebrake is essential to a manual trans.

weight wise i really dont know what it does take off, but IMO i like working under the car and know its not going to try to roll.

no ebrake to me is a safety hazzard for jackstands/ramps.

i remember it was done in one of the big weight reduction threads on here. i forget how much it weighed though. as far as safety while working on the car, chocks do a better job anyway.

Even though state inspection laws vary from state to state I would say I highly doubt any vehicle will pass w/out a fucntional e-brake. You can always call an inspection station and ask.

It's easy to do, not much weight saving though. Um... no more than 5lbs, I'd say more close to 3lbs though

I removed my ebrake and all teh **** off the calipers.... All of it weighed closer to 10lbs.... the parking brake handle assembly weighs a TON.... i did it cause I wanted to lose teh center console and carpet over the hump with ozite and clean up the interior....

don't forget the cables are quite heavy and there are two of them. The counterweights and springs on the caliper are easily 1 lb each..... I never park on steep hills (since there aren't many at local tracks) and since I have an auto I put it in Park at the track and i'm good to go....

yes sir u can get over 15 lbs easily with this all removed....like stated autos dont need to worry bout that crap

I thought these ones just squeezed the rear caliper and really there's only a rear lever on the brakes to multiply the pressure applied from the handle?

The handle itself weighs 5lbs, I didnt weigh the cables etc.

No, they don't squeeze the caliper at all. There is a little ring and the cables attach to a lever that expands the ring, it acts like an old school drum brake. Take off your wheel and have some one pull the parking brake, you'll see what I'm talking about.
I noticed that when I was removing the backing plates and swapping them over to my buddies Midwest fabbed 9".

I don't know how some of you removed the parking brake.
I took my calipers off to send off to powdercoating and could not figure for the life of me how to get the parking brake apart. There is one bolt you can get at but the other holding it together is located inside the e-brake bracket and looks to be an allen head bolt and there was no way to get and allen wrench in there....

Well if its a couple pounds, i dont know if its worth it IMO, i just figured it would be more than that. The parking brake assembly on the rear brakes looks like it would weigh more than that though.
