Honestly? The best way is to do it by hand. Rags, brushes, simple green degreaser, and uber amounts of patience.

good amount of elbow grease

I take a few of my favorite cleaners (mean green, engine degreaser, simple green, whatever, greased lightning, whatever), a few rags, and go to work cleaning everything individually. I usually take some Mothers polish and polish up my fuel rails as well

the "taking your time and doing it by hand method" is the best way but im lazy as hell. heres what i do. i spray the motor off as much as i want while its cool, use what ever cleaner you need and spray it off. the key is to not start the car immediately. if you let it sit for a while and let the water that potentially got in the opti evaporate it SHOULD be fine. if the engine is a little warm (not to where steam comes off the motor when you spray it) it should help the water evaporate faster. just dont start the car until its completely dry.

why risk wetting the opti cause of lazyness and costing you over $500 to fix. do it by hand. i learnd the hard way and wet my engine and opti went to poop didn't know any better at the time and spent $1000 at the dealer to fix

just play it safe and wait like an hour before you start it. big deal. wash your motor on your driveway, then go inside and watch some tv.

Haven't cleaned my engine bay yet.. so an interesting technique.. I wouldn't risk the opti hence I am barely yet a college student and lack this beautiful thing called massive amounts of money...

For me, I'd take the time and do it right the first time then have to worry about screwing the opti up

The force of the aerosol cleaner alone should be all you need to clean the MAF. No scrubbing or wiping of any kind is necessary.

EDIT: My bad, wrong thread....

ive always just used gunk and hosed it all off. never had a opti problem on my car. 115k later i only changed the opti to go to the new style to run double roller and ewp. people are so scared to get the opti wet. its not that big of a deal.
