I have run a solid roller for 2.5 years. Good and bad. I will continue to run them as I think the pro's outweigh the con's. I had one major problem this past spring with my SR 396ci motor. A lifter failed....the little needle roller bearings on the roller just gave out

Full rebuild was needed. I now went to the best lifter I could buy, I didnt care how much it cost.

The lifter that failed was a Crane 11522. To sum it up: I filed a complaint with Crane about the lifter and sent them back. Crane admitied that they were at fault (for not publishing what spring force these lifters can handle), but said that I was out of luck. The would'nt do anything....not even give me a set of replacement lifters. Needless to say, I will never buy anything from them again, nor recommend them. Not that they (Crane) care. They said that the lifter failed because I was running 10lb more pressure on the seat than what was "recommended", yet that recomendation is not written anywhere.

Other than that, solid roller rocks.

You honeslty cant beat the sound and the performance from a lot of the solid roller cars is incredible. I think its mainly cost that would keep me away from going that route on my next motor.

solid roller is a good idea, but if you are gonna be in a lot of traffic(which is sounds like you wont), you might want to steer clear. From what i have read and noticed with solid roller users, the solid roller lifters dont pump oil to the top end of the motor at idle as well as hydraulic roller and will run the top end dry if it isnt revved a lil' to keep oil flow good. Other than that, it requires just a tad more maintenace(valve lash), and generally needs to be rev'd a lil' higher to make its power and neither of those are big issues to me.

If you use polylocks on the studs you do not have to set the lash that much, Also depending on your setup i.e idle will depend on the oil flow. If you see a lot of idling they recommend a higher volume pump to keep a better flow up to the rockers unless you use aluminum roller rockers, then the less oil does not effect anything. It's more of a concern with stamped steel since the steel rockers on the exhaust side will "burn" and then flex from the stress. Nothing beats a solid roller IMO for torque, power, and all around fun.
