Kooks Headers and fitment issues
I am considering some Kooks headers and y pipe. I am curious to know about fitment issues with either the 1 3/4 header or the stepped header 1 3/4 to 1 7/8. Both will end in a 3 inch collector. I would like to know if anyone has experience with either header and if there are fitment issues? Also concerned over ground clearance.

I have 1 3/4" Kooks, and their offroad Y-Pipe. Mine fit like a glove, and went in without issue. My understanding is they offer the best ground clearance of any widely available LT1 header. If your car has the factory oil cooler, it will have to be removed due to the fact they tuck up so tight to the block.
I've got the stepped 1 3/4-1 7/8" and they fit great. I only had to slightly touch one of the steering knuckle bolts with a grinder because there was slight contact when turning. MIne also have the A.I.R. fittings which is a nice plus because of visual emissions inspections up here. They fit great, have terrific ground clearance and work well. I have to use the small PF454 oil filter which is no big deal.

Went to drive my Procharged setup yesterday and the linkage is rubbing my 13/4-17/8 kooks headers pretty bad???
I am running stock motor mounts and a BMR k-member and Kooks just told me since my setup is highly modded that is probably the reason it is not fitting

Do you guys with Kook stepped headers care to post pics of were the #1 primary is near the steering linkage.
My friend and I do not want to mess with the linkage (grinding) if all possible. I don't really feel safe doing so

I don't have the factory oil cooler...I think that is where some of the fitment issues are..My stepped headers fit right in with no clearance issues..I've had them for a bit over two years and they still work great and have that golden brown hue that uncoated stainless gets...

I don't think there is any doubt that the oil cooler will have to be removed if you get Kooks headers. I removed my oil cooler, and I'm running a short filter. I don't see any way that there would be room for the cooler running those headers. The upside is that they tuck up really nice.
