Well are you sure your valve stem is not bent at all, causing uneven wear on your valve seat? Are you sure your piston isn't scared and will eventually melt? Are you sure your cylinder isn't scored, causing ring damage or blowby? There is a lot of variable that you are over looking by just slapping on another spring and going about your day. Did you at least consider checking/replacing any of the other springs so that something like this won't happen again?

Think about what was going on inside that cylinder as the piston was traveling hundreds of feet per second with a valve inside it.
I gotta go with Puck and ss.slp.ls1. At the very least, I would pull the head and check everything out. It's just inexpensive insurance.

You believe?
How did they inspect it? Did they pull the springs and test the spring pressures?

you should buy a lottery ticket if nothing internal is messed up. Hard to believe the valve isn't bent, should do a leak down test. Wouldn't it be easier to change the springs after the heads off?

Something smells fishy.

They put on new parts, started it up and it ran like a charm, but they're going to pull the head anyway? You got some ***-backwards friends.

Default dropped valve, good news fixed it

well i found out something guys, the reason there was no damage was that the valve didnt drop all the ways out.it was still in the valve slot,it was pushed about flushed, when they got under the car and turned the engine, the valve pushed rest the way up.so i guess it didnt drop out,im still lucky.the guy that built the engine said when the valve drops in the piston he said it destroys everything in its path,he said it was a 1 in a million that one will

stays in its slot.but im very happy.save me some serious money.thanks to all for your help and comments,i can always count on you guys giving info.the springs that they installed to day was good for a cam up to 600 lift

Well, I'd still pull the head.

I'm just curious as to why the engine came to a grinding halt if nothing is wrong. It's not like the engine can't still turn over while making compression, but maybe it's the extra cylinder that is making compression that did it *shrug*

So how long did it run before it 'shut down'. And I didn't mean "grinding" literally, just a figure of speech.

@ 1 minute - a minimum of 1000 revolutions that motor made and didn't harm anything? Un-real.

I have to agree with him on this one lol At anything over 5seconds you're going to want to contact the Guinness Book of World Records. But honestly, I'd love to see inside that cylinder, even if it was through a boroscope!

We may have to rethink the LS1 being touched by god lol Maybe he'll see Jesus in the valve indentations on the piston
