doesn't exactly say alot, I know this is how you check of course just making sure we were on the same page

are none of them oiling?

I'd imagine something mechanical then along the lines of pump, drive gear, pickup, etc

What I think is happening is you have some sludge in the oil pan and when you get down on it it sucks up on the screen stopping oil flow. I had a durango doing the same thing as you explain sometimes good psi sometimes none I put 2 sending units in that bad boy and a mechanical gauge. Finally got pissed and pulled the pan to find some crap that looked like broken charcoal all over the pickup screen(oil sludge) Also this stuff never came out when doing a oil change.

On an LT1 with the intake on? No other way. On a LT1 with the intake off, or an other distributor SBC, with an oil pump primer tool and a powerful drill

You pull the oil pan off yet? Know anyone with a borescope? If no to the first, yes to the second, you could drain the oil and stick it in the drain hole to see if the pickup fell off. If not, then you'll have to either pull it off or find a really strong magnet and see if you can get the pickup to drag across the bottom of the pan, assuming it is fallen off. And mind you, if you drag the magnet directly against the pan, you'll get sound from it and won't be able to tell which is making noise.

I think that would be the death of your pump. I wouldn't drive it anymore unless you like to spin bearings.

There's a thread on here that tells you how w/o removing the motor. What I remember from it is you need to pull the bolt from the motor mounts and then jack up the motor, which will give you enough pan-to-crossmember clearance to remove it. And get the one piece Fel-Pro rubber oil pan gasket (it's bright blue).
