Default Guageing header interest

I was down at Kook's today talking with the guy's about building long tubes for the LT-1 F-body platform. Thier LS-1 headers are among the best out there an selling quite well. What we want to see if its worth it to tool up for an LT-1 production.

So if you have any idea's or questions post em an I'll try to answer all your question's as best as i can

Thanks,Tom

It would be cool, but the LT1 Long Tube market is already dominated by Hooker. What improvent from this design would they offer? Also they need offer smog hook ups for the all might 93. They would have to offer good coating, great price, and emisions hook ups as an offer. they would also have to improve upon some stuff, like the crappy slip fit seen on Hookers.

There would need to be a coating as an option, provide AIR tube fittings standard or as an option, offer choice of 1-3/4 or 1-7/8, and see if they offer a y-pipe to go with it.

I'm sure coating is not a problem I know they offer the regular silver as well as like 6 colors. But im sure you can get them in stainless steel which in my opinion would be a better choice. As far as I'm concerned I've had Hooker headers on other cars I've owned an always had issues. The Kook's pieces are all handmade on a jig an fit is perfect.I would'nt see a problem with 1x3/4's,1x7/8's or a 2 inch with stepped versions as well, i believe the jig's will accomodate such things. A y-pipe is part of the package with or without cats.(basically the same as is available for the LS-1)

I called them about this very thing a couple weeks ago. Kinda ticked me off that they hadn't gone ahead and set up a jig for the LT1. There are tons of people that would love a bigger header than a 1 3/4. I need a 2" myself.

That's why I posted this it's a pretty big undertaking to start a new product run, Especially not knowing for sure how much interest there is in the said product. It takes a tremendous amout of to custom fabricate a complete set of headers with all the intricate bends an such(especially on an lt1) then make a jig of it to make it possible to duplicate the piece over an over. once the initial set is complete I doubt there would be any problem accomidating size requirements.

I can't quote prices (since they don't exist yet) but I would guess they would be similar to the ls1 prices

Correct me if I'm wrong, these are LS1 headers to be fabricated for LT1's correct? If that is true what about the port differences between the heads also the installed height? What about the steering knuckle interference? What size would they make for the collector? 2 1/2", 3" ? These would be good for the weekend warrior but most people shy away from long tubes because of the install headache, if ease of install was a factor I'd jump all over a set the minute they hit production..especially if they put out a 3" collector

No, these are not LS1 headers. What he is talking about is Kooks setting up a new jig to make long tubes for LT1's. Long tubes are not hard to install and in my opinion, they are easier than shorties. I've always ran longtubes until I bought this car.

Anyway, I disagree with you saying its alot of work. Why? Because they already have the jig setup for a 4th gen. That right there was the hardest part. Setting the jig up for an LT1 is just a matter of them wanting to know if its going to be worth their time. Hooker has dominated the market so you'd think someone would like to get in and grab some of it. Like I said there are plenty of people who want a bigger header.

What i would like to know is what type of performance differance would be seen in these headers. I already have the hooker lt's. And lots of other people do also. They would need some serious motivation to want to switch.Im know for me i would have to see some good hp and tq gains for me to switch over.

i'd be interested in a step header with the small diameter to large diameter collector to keep velocity high.

I'm not trying to step on toe's or make mention one is better then the other but I have a set of Lemmon Headers that are built for LT1/LT4 F-body. Lemmon will build them from stepped, ceramic coated,O2 bungs,EGT's and sizes from primaries up to 2 5/8" to 1 1/2" with either manaphone collector or any collector for that matter in sizes up to if I recall 6" collectors.

F-body LT1 version where around $1,000.00 and mine fit great. If price was better I could see purchasing them from someone else but at the time they where the only company out there unless I wanted a custome built set.

Which was the exact reason I didn't mention lemmons.

I don't work at Kook's I'm a customer and a friend i just want see if they can expect close to the interest they got in the ls1 headers that are selling exceptionally well.I can't give HP numbers obviously but i'm fairly positive that will outflow an hooker piece thier ls1 headers are the best out there right now so thier reputaion an ability to make HP is without equal check under the hoods of the fastest mustangs at any ford event an you'll more than likely see the Kook's name. Guys with 7 second rides don't buy junk. So if they go ahead with an LT-1 line I'm sure anybody with a set will be all smiles
