Why is GMMG so damn expensive?

I was down in Ocean City MD, several years ago. When I was leaving to come home, I left early in the morning, to get a jump on the traffic. The main street was pretty deserted, therefore pretty quite. As I'm heading north, I see a Z-28 poking out of a side street, waiting for me to pass.
I go by, he jumps out and lays into it, blowing past me about a hundred yards later. I'm thinking Gawd, that thing is just way too noisy, and as he fades out of sight, I see the "Loudmouth" center exhaust exits....

GMMG is supposedly one of the freest flowing catbacks available. I read that it only lost 2.4 horsepower in comparison to an open cutout. I guess that's good.
