You bring up some interesting points. Let's analyze! This will be FUN!

You didn't bother to read the rest of the thread again apparently.

I read the entire thread when I made my first post, thanks. Why do you think otherwise?

1) It was simply an example as to the material you could use given the location and so forth.

Why didn't you mention you were suggesting it as a temporary fix in the first place? Did you go assuming people would think you were actually serious? Why didn't you suggest deer skin? Maybe some cotton underwear? I've got some spare tool-box liner...can I use that?

2) I was not implying that he should do that, as doing such would be a very temporary measure.

Then why didn't you say so? You could have avoided my response entirely (and responses from others, I'm sure), if you just said so! Looks to me like you're back-peddling to try and cover your own credibility (whatever you have left anyway) because what you suggested was ludicrous.

3) If you're in a pinch and stranded w/o any proper gasket material (gasket paper or rtv), this can suffice for 10mins to a few hours, whatever it takes to get you home.

Where did anyone mention this (prior to your post) about using it as a temporary solution? The OP asked what he could use to seal his EGR. He didn't mention a temporary fix; in fact he wanted a permanent fix, because he's installing EGR block-off plates, which is permanent.

My buddy has done it, and I can guarantee that he know a hell of a lot more than you ever will.

Once again, you rely on other people's experiences rather than your own. And maybe he does know more than me...you sure as hell don't.

It's not like I or he would EVER EVER do it to someone else's vehicle (ie a customer) and send them on their merry.

So what in the hell makes it okay to suggest to someone else then!?!?!?!?!??!

And apparently you can't even realize that some info, while not an ideal solution, is actually not incorrect.

I'm sorry - but I post on forums to provide ideal solutions and proper techniques...not asinine redneck fixes.

Sorry you haven't been around enough to know some of the tricks to get things cheaply done, so by all means go ahead and call a friend if you're stranded, or pay for a tow. I'd much rather Redneck it for a few miles

Thank you for basing MY experience on my relatively low post count and your own speculation. I might have you know that I've been a tech moderator on two forums for over 11 years and been a well-respected member on cz28.com for 8 years. Not to mention the actual real-world experience I've earned that you definitely lack. And about red-necking it for a few miles? I don't like to cut corners for cheap **** - I build reliable cars that don't amazingly blow out EGR gaskets.

Not asking you to like my ideas, just asking you not to be stupid about it. Again, it was merely a "haha you can use this, but really don't" suggestion.

I don't like your ideas. Neither do other members here - I'm not the only one who feels the same way. I've received FOUR PMs from other members in the short time I've been on this forum regarding the shitty advice you offer, and thanking me for the corrections to your garbage responses. I can happily forward them to you if you like.

If you consider the users here to be dumb enough to use cardboard as a perminant measure, then you clearly have little faith in your fellow LTx brethren.

I have more faith in the LT1 owners that have the ***** to ask for help and start a post, or admit when they are wrong. What I DON'T have faith in is jackass pretend-know-it-alls like yourself that put on a dog and pony show and don't admit when you're wrong.

More for me, than you, trust me lol Allow me to counter analyze!

I read the entire thread when I made my first post, thanks. Why do you think otherwise?

Why didn't you mention you were suggesting it as a temporary fix in the first place? Did you go assuming people would think you were actually serious? Why didn't you suggest deer skin? Maybe some cotton underwear? I've got some spare tool-box liner...can I use that?

Then why didn't you say so? You could have avoided my response entirely (and responses from others, I'm sure), if you just said so! Looks to me like you're back-peddling to try and cover your own credibility (whatever you have left anyway) because what you suggested was ludicrous.
Good job! You managed to read a whole 3 posts! Yet you failed to read the rest of the posts between the first one of mine and your response. Had you then you'd have seen what I said and noticed my comments on the matter. Which is where I said all of that which you are wondering about. Or maybe do we need to work on reading comprehension next?

Where did anyone mention this (prior to your post) about using it as a temporary solution? The OP asked what he could use to seal his EGR. He didn't mention a temporary fix; in fact he wanted a permanent fix, because he's installing EGR block-off plates, which is permanent.
It's odd that I merely mentioned something that can substitute the actual gasket, just like the others mentioned the use of RTV. RTV shouldn't be used in every application, let alone replace the gasket that should be used, but you're not commenting on that which is odd. Maybe you find it to be a cure-all and taught this genius who brought his car in because it was leaking oil like crazy. Mr Master Mechanic decided to RTV the timing and valve covers on his Saturn, you teach him that trick?

Once again, you rely on other people's experiences rather than your own. And maybe he does know more than me...you sure as hell don't.
Gone through this whole mess already, with either you or ltwon. People teach by experience, your knowledge then is based on their experiences. Those people who read advice you offered, but may not have needed at the time, then relied on YOUR experiences. So then are you going to go and lecture all those folks who in turn took your advice, and offered it to someone they ran into? Following your logic, I'd hope so, otherwise you'd just be a hypocrite. Yet I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if you let it slide. Forums like this are based on other peoples experiences, so I fail to see why you're here.

So what in the hell makes it okay to suggest to someone else then!?!?!?!?!??!
Mentioning something that could work isn't quite the same as saying "You should try some cardboard, as it's worked in other instances for a repair"

I'm sorry - but I post on forums to provide ideal solutions and proper techniques...not asinine redneck fixes.
It's seeming to be more like you're just here to bash me and toss in general knowledge tidbits here and there with the occasion good reply.

Thank you for basing MY experience on my relatively low post count and your own speculation. I might have you know that I've been a tech moderator on two forums for over 11 years and been a well-respected member on cz28.com for 8 years. Care to point out where I said "Don't may any attention to RamAir, he has a low post count and OBVIOUSLY doesn't know what he's talking about" or "He's new here and can't have been involved in the car business very long". Basing knowledge or experience on ones post count is just ignorant. I've been on the net a damn long time (since '94 if it matters) and know better. As for being a Tech Mod on a forum, BFD? Doesn't mean **** lol That and I could conjure up some BS story as well. So you've got a Cracker Jack Box Degree, want me to bow down before you now? And I love the fact that you're now a stalker to know of my real world experiences. You come at me for this supposed basing your experiences on your post count, and then you turn around and say something as absurd as that! Also where the heck do you come up with this crap lol Cutting corners and building reliable cars, gaskets blowing out... So now that a car that's purchased and has a gasket failure, and you aren't around a parts store to buy the gasket that's needed, yet you do after you make it home (which I clearly stated was done), implies that I not only cut corners but don't do reliable work? Quite the claim, and also a steaming crock of **** heh I can't even begin to comprehend the backassward thought process going on in your head where you come up with stuff like that... Not even sure if I need to mention the fact you don't come across as any older than 27. Which if you are, that's sad, but if not it means you've apparently been a Tech Mod since you were 16 >_>

I don't like your ideas. Neither do other members here - I'm not the only one who feels the same way. I've received FOUR PMs from other members in the short time I've been on this forum regarding the shitty advice you offer, and thanking me for the corrections to your garbage responses. Then they are not only more then welcome to voice their OWN opinion instead of hiding behind you, because they know you're a troll and will start ****, but are welcome to PM me about it! And you're welcome to forward them to me, and cite the 'garbage' that was corrected. It's really not going to make me feel bad, if that's what you're trying to do by this charade.

I have more faith in the LT1 owners that have the ***** to ask for help and start a post, or admit when they are wrong. What I DON'T have faith in is jackass pretend-know-it-alls like yourself that put on a dog and pony show and don't admit when you're wrong.
I've been here a few years now and have asked many many many questions, and I still do. I'm always interested in finding out information. I also am glad to admit when I'm wrong, and don't have to pretend anything, nor imply that I know everything. If I did, I'd be making the big bucks and not on this forums. I even thanked you for telling me some info on the MAF/MAP issue! Hell I don't even claim to know everything, but you've made it abundantly clear in your post that you sure think you do. Starting to sound more and more like a hypocrite...

Glad we had this chat though! Don't forget to forward those PMs so I'll know who's threads to not bother with.

Block off plates sure, since as I said there's no where near the heat being generated there any longer. I would not use it on the EGR while it's hooked up though! Just look at the common rear intake problem that's caused from the EGR. While they say it's from intake warpage, I'm thinking it's more due to the RTV between the intake and block deteriorating from constant engine cycling.

no you dont, you would rather bash others over the head with your ignorance than just give honest advise. What if i was a newb and tried using cardboard like you said earlier. You never said anything about it being a temp fix. And to make things worse you jump all over the guy who gave a simple bit of help. It's really annoying to have people like you on here, and iv only been here for a few months. But i guess you cant fix stupid. Oh and you can add me to the list of people to "not bother with".
