Default techs chime in here please!!!

i am putting my car back together done a cam swap cc503 and need to double check this the book helped but still unsure done search haven't found what i am looking for ... got my cam in and timing chain on but still unsure about my timing .. i knoew the crank gear only goes on one way but when you line the dots up do you set tdc on number 1 or what .. is it still like traditional sbc or have i fouled up here ..... i have my timing cover on and crank hub installed b4 i go any further i wana double check to make sure thanks any help is appreciated

anyone ... i am questioning myself because on shoebox it said tdc on #6 and everything thing i know tells me #1 but i dont wana put it together and have to take it back apart

its the same firing order as a old 350 tdc on number one would be the way to go. and line it up dot to dot

What is on my site is correct (you think it would be wrong? ). Dots together is #6 TDC. Really, you don't care what cylinder is at TDC-just line up the dots.

You line up the timing gear dots, period. Put the timing cover on. The splined shaft for the opti only goes on 1 way. That way the distributor is perfect in relation to the cam, and as long as you have the wires on the opti correctly, you are good to go.

no hard feelins shoebx but it just confused me ... i alwys did it by 1

isnt the lt1 the same though? not to question you.
but you could run the dot to dot on number one tdc right?
thats the way ive always done it

...not to question, but you are, right?
Dot to dot is #6 on an LT1. That much is absolutely certain. Both dots at 12 o'clock is #1. The crank and pistons are at the same position for both, so it does not care. It is the phasing of the cam (and how the lobes are machined) that makes it 1 or 6.

ok thats what i was thinking......lol wasnt sure on the cam location vs the crank locations

thats what i was wonderin cause i checked #1 and it was tdc and the dots were 6 and 12 so when i seen #6 i was was like whoaa!! ya know i'd really flippin hate it if i went to start and nutn ya know plus have y-pipe problems now and b4 i button it up i wana know 4 sure
