Default Decisions, decisions....

Well,
I've been comptimplating a new engine build for a while now. But I haven't decided what way Im gonna go. SBC, LS1, or build another LT1. The engine in the car now will be coming out and going into a truck. Whatever I build, it'll be built on a budget.

So what are yalls suggestions??

Frankenmotor ala the_merv Gen III truck motor with the L92 heads. Hell and if it'll bolt up to the heads (should from my understanding), slap on the LS3 supercharger

That's pretty much what he did, except punched it out slightly. Though if you have the $$, you should Chuck Norris it out to the 434ci, or there abouts

How much money do you have to put towards this "budget build?" I want to say go with a LS1, only downfall with that is parts/performance upgrades for those motors are twice as much as the LT1 stuff. If you are really tight on the budget, then build up a LT.

It seems I can build an LS based motor to meet my goals for cheaper then it'd be to build a LT1.

But I think were it might get kind of expensive is switch all the wiring and what not over to LS.

But 450 rwhp on a LS1 isn't very hard to do...and it's cheaper to do then on a LT1. It seems like there are way more second hand parts for sale for LS motors.

6.0 with stock crank, eagle/scat i-beams, mahle pistons, set of ported 5.3's, decent intake, a nice nitrous cam and im where i wanna be with an ls1. and the majority of that is for sale right now is the for sale section.

I'm an LTx guy and voted LS, if I could do my build over I would have bought an LS motor and built that up. Now I have to buy a different tranny unless I change it over when I swap to an LS motor.

I'd say to just buy an LS car, but I know where you are coming from. My car has everything done and when I got it, it was bone stock. All I need is a k member and rear end and pretty much has been replaced.

So build your 6.0 thats my plan

I'd say go with a LT1. Only because that's what I'm building. Other than that. I dunno. I'd love to have a small hatchback converted to rwd with a cammed lt1 in it. Something with a 2200lb raceweight haha.

If im not mistaken, LT1 transmissions will fit an ls1.

Yeah it works both ways, you just have to swap the front input shaft and front plate and bellhousing. And obviously clutch. I believe thats it, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Master and slave cylinder too. It's a lot to change. Might as well get a LS1 style T56.

Oh yeah haha. I agree that it would be alot easier to just get an LS M6, but for someone like me that already has a 6 speed I think I would change it over. Especially considering I just bought the damn thing and only have about 3k miles on it and it only has 13k total since the rebuild.

I can see that. I've got just under 160k on my T56 without issues. But I would have it rebuilt while its out, then I could get the rest of it swapped over, if I was doing the conversion. Many times you can find a good deal on a LS1 T56 swap for like 1500. Then sell the LT1 T56 to make up some of the money. That's usually your best bet.
