cam swap help
Ok so I bought a Hotcam kit from another member on here a while ago. I am planning on installing it this weekend and want to make sure it will work. I have a 94, and the kit is from a different year, all I have to do is switch the dowel pins correct?

yea the cam will work fine in your '94. just measure the dowel pin on the stock cam and compare it to the hotcam. dowel pin length Isnt as important on non vented opti cars. my bet is the hotcam will be longer. you can just grind it down slightly
the only thing im unsure of is if the hotcam has the non vented opti setup in the cam since non vented uses a spline thats inserted in the cam. you might have to convert to a vented opti setup
maybe someone else will chime in....

the only thing im not sure of since i never seen a non vented unit in person before is i dont know if the hotcam has the spline drive. i dont remember. the hotcam was designed after the LT4 corvette came out in '96(which had the vented opti)
in the bottom right picture it looks like the timing chain sprocket has the splines, not the cam. so thats where im confused

Non-vented setups use the short pin (~.300") while vented setups use the longer pin (~.720"). If yours is long and you need the short pin, you can cut the pin or tap it in. If you have the short pin and you need the long pin, a machine shop can pull out the pin and reinstall a new one.
