Default Water PUMP?

I wake up this morning and saw a huge puddle of radiator fluid under my car. I turn it on and water leaking out of the front of the engine, hoses look intack, no water from thermostat housing, radiator dry, water coming from the middle of the engine behind the pullies. why the hell would it leak out at night ? wierd any ideas before i pull it apart?

The car doesn't have to be running for the water pump to go out. It's actually better it went this way if you're driving with a dead WP the air pushes the leaking water right on the opti. Hopefully yours opti is ok though. There's a stupid little hole the water leaks out of right onto the opti. I think the GM engineers probably thought it would be funny to do something that dumb. Lol.

^^^+1.

I've been lucky and had a water pump puke all over the opti and the car ran great with a new WP. Then a few months later my radiator hose blew, soaking my opti yet again. Still fine.
Opti finally kicked the bucket at 140k miles when the pointer rivets broke.

Car will start running like crap? breaking up in higher RPM range, shutting off for no reason at all.

Hesitation, stumbling, missfiring, and most notable...lots of backfiring out the exhaust.

mechanic pushed some air pressure through the radiator to find the leak. turns out water pump is ok but the water is coming from around the intake. he says either the intake gasket or head gasket. no water in the oil but has not ran since it puked at night.

ne ideas besides what he says? ne price thoughts on what either would cost to fix? he cant do it.

maybe the top of the WP gasket. It is located neare the itake gasket at the heads. If it is leaking from the top then it will allow water to drain down behind the pullys. I would check there first if it isnt leaking from the hoe on the WP

It can't be the intake gasket. The LT1s use a dry manifold.

It's most likely the water pump weep hole, indicating your pump is bad. It is not common for head gaskets to blow from the water jacket to the outside. Then again, I could be wrong.
