Default Header Vs. Steering linkage

Does anyone have trouble with their steering linkage clearing the header besides me? I have a 94z with pacesetter midtubes and I had to dent the primaries about 1/4 inch on the #3 and #5 cylinders to get the steering linkage to clear them and not rub. Then i installed the rage joint eliminator last night (AWESOME) and now the linkage rubs again. I want to switch to longtubes this summer but im worried about clearance, if i cant even clear midtubes...

You might have sagging motor mounts. That's why it is recommended to swap in new ones or go poly when you are doing your headers on a higher mileage motor. It's the best time to do them...trying to change motor mounts with LT's is a PITA.

They have a slip out tube for the #1 primary, he said that he is rubbing on primary #3 & #5. I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that they are mids or not though.

i would assume its more a problem with your mounts. when i installed my kooks if i tried to get on it hard in a turn or do a 180 sometimes the headers would get locked up with the steering linkage. after i let off the gas i could turn again. replaced the mounts and no problem

I hear the motor mount theory quite a bit, but I am not buying into it, lol. But if it has worked for some then great. I have stepped kooks on my car and the steering linkage was rubbing hard. I removed the three bolts under the steering column and the two under the steering wheel and moved everything over. I can now stick my hand between the header and steering linkage. Still on 1 factory motor mount (140K miles)and a BMR k-member.

I just installed pacesetter LT's on my car a few weeks ago and i didnt have any problems with the steering, except i had to take the plastic cover off the joints cause that hit the headers, but other than that no modification with mine.

Hmmmm.... Moving the steering wheel seams a bit extream but I'll keep that in mind, but I'll try new mounts and see if that helps

I ground on my steering shaft bolt a bit. part of the knuckle rubs when the car warms up, but its real hard to get to with a air grinder.

i think that will help in my case because the linkage hits right after the header bends down so moving the engine up should move that bend further away
