i just went out again and checked it, and the alt is still hot. its just the housing thats hot. its been about 2 and a half hours since i've messed with it. i disconnected the battery, cuz i dont want to start a fire!!!!!!

Sounds like you got a faulty alternator. If you are getting 13-14 volts then you should be doing fine, but sounds like the alternator is building up too much heat inside of itself.

Ugh. I was stating that the alternator itself is the issue. Take it apart and look at the stator.

Why? It gets hot even when it's not moving.

My buddy also said, with out me saying my thoughts on the matter, that it's most likely grounding out or because it's a cheap alternator lol

funny story- I was talking to a friend of a friend who knows quite a bit about f-bodys, and i told him my problem. he asked me if i had gotten it from o'reileys, and i told him yes and how did he guess. He says he used to work there and he noticed alot of the o'reileys alts tend to do the same thing mine is doing.
