Default Oil Dipstick

Ok so I installed my new longtubes last night and went to put the oil dipstick back in. It will start to slide in really easy then about a 1/3 of the way in it get stuck and won't go in very easily? Any suggestions or tricks to try and get it to go in?

If it still won't go back in (mine didn't the first time I took it out - I ended up breaking it), you can try and LIGHTLY sand the tube. I stress LIGHTLY, because too much and it will leak. Sand a few strokes, try the fitment. Repeat.

Did this myself and no problems since. The dipstick comes out just fine everytime now - no leaks.

Mine had the same problem and i was never able to get it in so i took it out and ground down the bump on the tube like a dummy then ended up breakin it right there when i was tryin to bend it back. I had that thing loaded up with anti sease too.

Now i gotta buy a new tube cause mine is only in the block a few inches. lol

take his advice, LIGHTLY sand lol and dont try to bend it at all after it's sanded cause then metal gets real weak and it will break on you.

Thanks guys. It came out pretty easily, so I'll give it a shot tonight and see what I can do. I have been avoiding bending it like the plague. I'm terrified of breaking it. Lol.

I'm really looking forward to feeling the difference in the new headers!! I'm girlishly giddy in fact.

Yeah they are delicate. I got frustrated back when I first started working on mine 10yrs ago, and had a speed shop put it in. Later on down the line I noticed they had broke it in 2 pieces and rtv'd it back together. WTF?

I bought a new one recently, and will be installing it after leaving in deep freeze for a while. I am surprised no one has mentioned that yet.

I actually got mine to go in 1/2 and it would get stuck, so I placed a LONG screwdriver head on the place where the mounting bracket connects to the tube and I tapped it in the rest of the way with a hammer. Worked.

Wow, I guess I musta had one hella strong dipstick. I bent mine all kinds of ways and it finally went back in. Just put a little bit of rtv around the sealing surface and it was gtg.

Yeah, I had to do the same thing. Using a long screwdriver on the bracket allows you to hit the dipstick at the same angle as where the tube enters the block.
