'93-'95 cars had one large cat right where the y-pipe merged. '96-'97 cars had dual cats. They are different.

You either need to buy universal high-flow cats and have them welded in at an exhaust shop. Or you need to buy high flow cats made for a '96-'97 Fbody.

Well if you'll notice, the passenger side cat is welded into the y-pipe and the drivers side is welded into one of the arms of the yipe. Your best bet would be to find a stock y-pipe for a '96-'97 Fbody and either weld in universal high-flos or cut the cats off and weld in straight pipe. I just so happen to have my stock y-pipe in the garage.

EDIT: I forgot that you are getting LT's and TD's. Just get high flows and weld them into your TD's shortly after the headers. That's all there is too it. Keep your stock manifolds, y-pipe, and cat back and you could swap them in every two years OR just pay the extra money and never touch it again after the swap.

Sounds like a good Idea. Thats one of the reasons I decided to keep my emissions, so that I would actually have a chance of passing.

All I gotta do is find some used good high flows cuz i don't wanna pay an arm and a leg for them new...
