Jegs and Sumit carry them.
They are carried for your vehicle as JET #561-14005 96-97 in the JET brand b/c the OBD-11 design was sold to Jet Industries. I never used it, but I found the screen layout to be more organized.than my LT1-ewdit. Tunercat is for OBD1 cars and is different, and sold by tunercat.

You'll need a scanner application to log your data and store the data on, I use autotap b/c it works after a fashion but you need a PC, and I highly recommend a small power inverter. Not real big on the tiny screens that are self contained.

LT1 Edit properly does touch as many features, but layout is all dialog based, (very poorly,) documentation and support are non-existent and it's more money.

'96 and '97 LT1's use OBD2 PCMs, so your only options are LT1 Edit and Jet DST. If you don't have emissions testing where you live, you may want to consider an OBD1 conversion, because tunercats for OBD1 is MUCH more affordable. I use Jet DST for my '96 Camaro and it has worked well for me.

Moates.net has the 94-95 obd1 lt1 data cable. Then go to tunercats for obd1 tuning software. For the 96-97 obd2 lt1, the Jet dst is about the only option. Then you have to use a seperate scan/log software, since the dst is tuner only. westersgarage.com has the scan software to integrate with the jet dst.

Scanning (collecting and analyzing data) is the most important part of the tuning process. You have to know what it is doing before you can adjust the program. There are many important parameters, such as fuel trims, knock retard, timing, throttle position, etc.
I suggest that you go to the tuning section of this forum and download some docs from the stickies. One of the better starters is called Tuning 101, or something like that.

For OBD2 vehicles, Ive always prefered efi live, used it on my truck, and with the help of their customer support, picked up 6oftlbs of torque in my truck.

I was under the impression that EFI live doesn't offer software for LT1's.

I use EFI live on my 98 chevy vortec truck, I dont see many differences in the operating system, but, now that you mention it, I dont remember if they do offer the software, With efi live, All you need to select is the controller style for the pcm, and it pretty much does the rest for you as far as connecting to the pc.
If they dont offer LT1 stuff now, Get in contact with them, They're always working on new stuff.

They are different. And several people have been in contact with them, there is not a large enough market to offer it to LT1's.

I have Datamaster and Tunercat running on my laptop with Vista, it took a little tweaking to get them to run but they work fine once you get them going.
