LS1 airbox on LT1?

Default LS1 airbox on LT1?

I was just wondering if anyone tried this. Ive been looking for a way to eliminate that crappy elbow and induction setup, the LS1 airbox system is real tight and simple. I mean i know our cars are different, but the front ends are basically the same, the only real problem i can think of is getting a hose that would go from the MAF to the Throttle body since the LS1s have the different TB setup. Anyone else have any ideas on this?

This is a great question. I wonder if there would be a way to convert the twin-butterfly LT1 TB setup to an LS1 single-butterfly TB... anybody with any experience on this?

I don;t know if we'll find anybody, I honestly can't say that I've ever seen it done before. But, it is fathomable, and if it's doable, I'm sure there's somebody out there that has tried it.

I think all u would need just a rubber hose that had a little more play in it, so you could fit-over the butterfly shape of the LT1 TB. I doubt u can use the LS1 TB because the TB is designed to fit to the LS1 intake manifold and if you look at the shapes there is no way to get the LS1 to accept the LT1 unlesss u completely modify the LT1 intake manifold. My REAL concern with the whole thing is if there is the space between the front bumper and the radiator for the ducting. I know us LT1s got some extra plastic and junk in the way but I think it is actually possible. Im gonna take a few more looks at the setup on the LS1s and see if I can figure something out.

i've seen it done on a firebird with a ws6 style hood... i wanted to do it to mine but my harwood ram air hood doesnt have enough room. with a camaro you probably have to use a cowl hood

Pepole with WS6 style hoods can make it fit, but you have to modify the lower part of the box to get it to fit correctly over the radiator and bolt in place. There is a guy on camaroz28.com that did it to his Camaro, he has the SLP Ultra-Z hood.

As far as a Monoblade TB for the LT1, AS&M make one that flows something like 1300cfm for about $550.00, but you have to modify the intake manifold to fit it.

I'd like to look into that monoblade/single-butterfly TB when I do my intake mani... does anybody have any performance numbers on it? It's pretty expensive, do the numbers justify the price?

I think it would be worth it for a someone with forced induction running a good amount of psi (more than 5-6), but not for a N/A engine. Unless it was a mega-bad-*** N/A build up making huge Hp numbers.

I had a monoblade and it's a pretty stout piece. You will have to do quite a bit of cutting on the mouth of the intake(remove material between the two openings). Personally, I'd only use it on a low boost or N/A motor. I'd be very afraid of using it on a nitrous motor. Seems like the blades would bend pretty easy on a backfire. I've seen it happen a couple times on Vipers.

I thought of this before. Joesph from Texas Speed ended up trying it out one day using a complete LS1 Airbox assembly, and fernco bellows (i think). More or less it would work the same way as a LT1 WS6. To get the most out of it, Im sure you would want to use a Ram Air Induction, something like Fast Toys. The only issue we really had was that the radiator support was a lil funky...might have to tweak it a lil bit to get everything to work right....but it is VERY POSSIBLE and looks good. Would work great with an Ultra Z Hood!!!!

That would be pretty cool if it did work becuase i don't care for my slp cai and that 1le elbow. Think it would work with a stock hood on a camaro?

good question kevinb...i was looking at my car and if i remove the plastic in front/top of the radiator it leaves alot of space for air to pass in(fast toy kit)...of course without the plastic the radiator would become loose like "Lt1/ls1 fun" stated...but it shouldnt make any other damages right...or will it??

TSAEB, to make it work the best, u would replace the whole piece u are talking about with the LS1 Style lower airbox (what actually bolts to the radiator support (the metal frame in front))

I am going to try and tackle this 2morrow during my nitrous install, and may try to get some pics up if possible.
