If there was any doubt that there are idiots running GM, announcing the discontation of the Pontiac line will remove all doubt. They're also killing the new Z28 with the supercharged engine, because it is not 'politically correct".

Maybe it's time to look at Mustangs.

the reason they're killing the supercharged z28 is because you can't make a car faster then the corvette for 1/2 the price. then nobody would buy a corvette. that actually makes sense.

killing pontiac however, when looking at the numbers. makes no sense. although - maybe they know something we dont.

I'm surprised GMC didn't get the ax. Even though that division seems to generate a lot of sales, aren't their products just rebranded Chevrolets?

I felt bad when "________________" was killed off. Insert: Nash, AMC, Plymouth, DeSoto, Rambler, Crosley, Lagonda, REO......the list is nearly endless. All good things come to an end. They can always bring it back....

haha well between you and i the only brand i could think of that i care to still have around that you listed would be AMC, and even then they weren't that great.

Pontiac is Iconic. . . has been around forever and makes some effin sexy sport cars. Check out the T/A, WS6, Firehawk, G8, Older Firebirds, GTO older. . . i mean **** man this is bullshit!

i beg to differ althought they make stupid business decisions, look at some of the motors they've turned out since 1980 they are pretty impressive. . . to mention the least the LSx series. . .

All Pontiacs have been powered by GM motors and not by pontiac specific motors since 1980. I am in no way bashing the Chevy motors, I'm just saying the disrupted brand identity when they offered several cars that looked the same with identical motors.

I am still sad to hear it - my first car was a third gen firebird - but IMO it has to be done. In todays auto industry it is not a smart decision to have two performance brands under the same company. I am also against a supercharged z28 for the reasons posted. They already have one car that is underpriced for its performance, and one with even more performance per price potential would be a horrible idea. Who would buy a base model vette when they can get a just as quick camaro with more potential for less? There is a reason ford stopped making supercharged cobras. Its bad business sense to price them how we want them to be priced, and they cannot price them how they deserve because nobody will pay vette and gt500 prices for "just" camaros and mustangs. No matter how nice or fast it is you can't sell a honda priced like a lexus...especially if your company makes both!!

Back on topic, it is sad to see pontiac go. The convertable firebird 400 is one of the SEXIEST cars of all time, especially in the iconic white w/ red stripes.
