Arrow Optispark tune-up? or Replacement

I have a 115,000 on my 96 z28. I have the water pump and crank pulley off. I already bought new wires so should i replace the opti?
Also how difficult is it to replace the opti?

opti isnt hard to replace really.. i have done it a couple times in a few hours. i say might as well if you are already there or at least cap and rotor.

Personally, I'd replace it with a new OEM unit. It's not difficult at all to do, you're pretty much there, three more bolts and the opti's off.

I would say replace it if you have the money as well. I'm right at that mileage and while it was working fine one day before I started modding, I currently suspect it is taking a dump and if you are already there, why not save time now so you're not pulling everything back off down the road to do it. Just make sure you get the OEM replacement like ss.slp.ls1 and others on the site have suggested.

The majority of the time an opti fails, it's a problem with the cap and rotor. You might be fine just doing that, but you never know, plus a whole new unit is only like ~265.

I'm looking at getting an MSD Opti for about $250, is it worth it or does everyone still reccomend OEM?

Most everyone here will say OEM. I have heard pretty much nothing but complaints about any aftermarket replacement opti stuff. I think most of it has to do with longevity. OEM lasts, aftermarket doesn't seem to make it past a few years most of the time.

ss.slp.ls1 posted a good link a few weeks back on Ebay I think that was like $225-$250 I think. Also, gmpartsdirect has direct replacement parts at a better price than dealer.

Everyone should order their AC Delco/Delphi opti from "thepartsladi" on Ebay.

^ What he said. An opti should be fine if you treat it right and replace the cap/rotor, but at 115k if you have the money and the time it's better to put a new one on than have to worry about if the old one craps a sensor.

i was mad at myself when i tried getting by with just replacing my cap and rotor on my opti that seemed like it was going to fail soon... after i replaced it and put it all back together it went completely out like 100 miles afterwards.... and i spent over half of what a new distributor costs on a cap and rotor...
i would recommend playing it safe and having a good running car without having to tear it down to this point again and just replacing it all for a little more money
