Default A/C Delete Question

So I've got all the lines and the condenser for the A/C out and I'm curious if it's pretty straight forward taking out the box mounted to the firewall? Anything tricky to do once it's off? I see BMR offers a panel which looks nice. Any help from those who have any knowledge on this topic please chime in THX!

Are you planning on retaining heat?

Honestly I didn't think about that...

Probably not. It never really worked anyways. It's blown semi warm/cold air from day one. Plus I only drive it in the summer and I can always throw a blanket in the back

Then you can remove the whole unit, but that will require that you remove your dash.

Ahhh, I don't want to do that. So if I kept the heat could I avoid taking apart the dash? If not I will just keep it in there and bag the idea.

to take the box out i believe u need to remove the dash...

IMO i wouldnt do it, remember ur not only losing a/c and heat ur also loosing defrost.... these cars fog up easily....

i'd just pull the lines, compressor, condensor, and canister.... all that weighs a lot... u'd be surprised... i've heard anywhere from 30 - 50lbs from different sources

i've still yet to weigh it all but i will soon, i need to buy a cheapo scale

Yeah if you don't want to remove the dash, you can remove the portion of the box that extends past the firewall and into the engine bay. Don't know how difficult it is to do with the engine in place, most rip it out when they drop the engine.

Well my engine is completely out. I'm in the mix of doing either a 355 or 383 stroker. Leaning towards the 383. I may or may not mess with it. I've got everything else out A/C wise that was in the way so....Thanks for the info

Since it's out, remove the box part that extends into the engine bay and block it off with a plate, easy as that.

Cool I will look into just doing that! The thing I was curious about was if there was any wires or anything that needed to be plugged off behind it once it's out.

From the pictures that I have seen, you just remove it and block it off. I think something has to be done to retain the the proper heat flow, but if you are not concerned about it, then I think you can just block it off.

It isnt that hard. I did mine With my engine still in there. Some of the bolts that hold the box on to the firewall come from the inside. I had to break and cut the box out of mine. Once that is out i had to trim the panel that separates the heater core from the blower. The BMR panel is ment to be mounted from the inside of the cab (having to remove your dash to do this) so it will not work unless you remove everything. You best bet will be to do what themerv did and make his own panel that mounts from the outside of the engine bay and cut an access hole for your heater core tubes.

Hope this helps

If you decide to keep the heat just block off the two things and you will be good to go. I shoved some plastic pieces in there but the other day ran into some actual bolts with threads that you can screw in there, forget where tho.

Dude if your heat doesn't work anyway take everything out. It's not too tough too get the dash out enough to get the under dash pieces out. I did mine last week. Plus if you aren't going to use it...it's just extra weight right? TAKE IT OUT

I pulled mine because of the visual sore of seeing that part cut out of mine inside the engine bay. It really isn't that hard like everyone thinks, but it def helps out to have a second set of hands in there when trying to get the drivers side out. Mine is a trans am so I'm not to sure about your dash. But in my opinion it is well worth taking out the whole thing and installing the delete plate from the inside. And also I bought my a/c delete plate from Alvin at pcmforless. It is cheaper than the BMR one and it is of nice quality. They don't have them on the website so you just have to call if you want to go that route
