Default CC503 question

Hey guys,

So - reading the cc503 specs, it claims that it makes max power @ 6200-6400 rpm.

Granted I install the cc503 with all proper valve train components, is spinning that high safe? I feel like my motor wouldn't last very long spinning 6400 on stock heads.

I spin to 6300-6500 every day. We'll see how long it lasts.

I have read somewhere that 6500 rpm is when the rod bolt will likely fail.

The cc503 will not make peak power in the 6200-6400rpm range but that is where you want to shift it. For example when I had LT's, ORY, Catback, 1.6RR's and the cc503 my peak power on the dyno was at 5900rpm. Every setup is different so it will vary slightly but you want to shift a couple hundred rpm's beyond peak to get the most potential out of the car. Typically 6200-6400rpm shifts are about golden for a car with the cc503. Not to jinx myself but I've been shifting in the 6400rpm range for a decent while now without any issues, I refuse to go higher tho.

I think even with ported heads and all the bolt-on's it would be difficult to hit 400 rwhp with the CC503. With a CC306 or GM847, it would be a different story.

LOL at your sig, that .01 seconds must be eating away at you. I say add a 10-15 shot just to get you into the 7's.

Hell, just changing your valve springs is good for some lost HP! Those Valve springs get wore out!

yea i've also heard 6500 is the limit for an LT1 and to not go over that.

but then again im sure some people have done it, but for how long is the real question.

listen to stealth, he said his peak power was 5900, so shift say 400rpms above that if you do it, 6300rpms really shouldnt hurt the stocker.

You cannot put a magical limit on when the stock shortblock will fail. Some have had success with higher, closer to 7k (and past). Others have it fail at 6200. It is completely reliant on several variances other than RPM itself.
