Default headers questions

hey guys, was just wondering something. looking to get headers, but dont want to drop a grand on kooks or wait another five months for lpps. so, i was wondering, if i got some painted pacesetters, stripped the paint, then repainted them better...would that help with rusting? i was also looking at jet hots, anyone run those on here? how do you like them and how have they held up?

coated that much better for life? i was looking at the jet hots because theyre hookers but coated good and cheaper and have the bungs welded closer so it wont run as rich, or so ive been led to believe. 500 dollars versus 750 some for the hooker name

i like the idea of coated, keeps temps down and all. i just replaced my o2s last sept or so, will they get trashed bty the coating curing process? weighing all my options - i know i gotta get some extensions and ill have to get an exhaust welded up too.

coated last. they start off silver and shiny and over time they look lik they get a rust kinda color but they dont rust. the color just turns. coated will probably last as long as you hav the car or until you want to change it. my coated ones hav been on for 2 yrs no rust some small spots lik i described thats all

i see, sort of like how stainless turns a golden color? so in spots theyll turn goldish-red but it wont be eaten through? okay. i think im gonna go with the jet hots. gotta save some more money up first hehe.

I need to add my two cents in here.

Ceramic coating will NOT prevent rust. Coating is strictly to keep exhaust temperatures hotter to increase scavenging, while keeping the surface temperature of the header a few degrees cooler. It is more for performance than anything else.

While ceramic coating will delay the formation of rust, it simply can not prevent it. Depending on your climate conditions, driving habits and frequency, they will ultimately rust. After a year with my Jet Hots and moderate driving, they began rusting badly.

If you want rust-proof headers, pick up ceramic coated stainless headers.

I'm sure it will also have a direct relationship to the quality of the coating as well. My Jet Hot coated headers rusted within a year, and so did my MACs.

Perhaps it has something to do with increased EGTs from car to car from a performance standpoint.

Just a thought...they sell an LPP knockoff header on Ebay for like $475 shipped. They are good stainless and fit pretty good for the most part. Probably will have to do more fitment than on real LPPs but I have little complaints with mine for the money.

I have them and am pretty happy...especially considering how little I paid for what i got. It included the ORY and was pretty good quality thick stainless.

Coated or not, any mild steel header will eventually rust.

Has anyone tried or heard anything about these? They seem like a good deal.

Those are basically the same ones as I was talking about but from a different distributor. I used "PitStopTuning" I believe...but yea, same basic setup. They are LPP copies..down to the welds inside the collector and design and all. Pretty good IMO for the money. They are all polished stainless if they are the LPP copies.

Okay, I knew they looked a lot like LPP's but someone on another forum was telling me there were some differences, but they sure look dead on with them. Great value either way.
