Default ignition problem solved, no more surging!

I earlier posted a thread about my 94 Z auto that was surging in second gear after a kickdown. Wanted you to know I relocated the icm and coil away from the head and the problem almost completely went away. Next I replaced the glowing coil and the issue is now gone. I also found the grommet for the pcv was loose and the hose to it was split so I replaced it too. While I had it apart I did the TB coolant bi-pass mod.
I have to say the car felt like 13.70's before and now 20's or 30's seem realistic to hope for. It was just chirping the tires going to second and now rips them hitting drive also. Second gear is much stronger. I still haven't run the car past 90 but it sure gets there fast.
I've had 5 F-bodies prior including 2 auto LS1's this car feels the fastest. My first was a 13.20 87 firebird with older 350 trick flow heads, built 700r4, 3.42s, headers, and no traction. The Z gets out of the hole great on the street. Will let you know about track times real soon. Going to tri-state in cinci next saturday for test and tune.

Default yeah, glowing coil

in the dark with the engine running the coil had a slight glow to it along the sides where the frame is. It was touching on one side and I think it is supposed to be gapped maybe. Looked kinda sky blue and faint. Haven't checked the new one to see if it does it too. Car runs great now.

Where'd you relocate the ICM and coil to? I was considering maybe relocating them to the fenderwell, to get them completely away from the head.

Has anyone done this? I was considering doing the same. I would have to extend the wiring by splicing in wire, soldering & heat shrinking them.

Just unscrew the icm and coil from the head. Put the icm and coil on the bolts, then put some nuts on the thread and screw into the head. The 1/2" is enough to keep some cooler air around the coil icm

It is best to keep the coil wire as short as possible.

Good point shbox. I think the 94-95 coils/connectors are garbage. You should upgrade to a 96-97.
