Default Car just died on me while driving

Ok so i pulled out of work today got on the gas about half throttle and then the car just shut off, no loud sound of anything just died, tried to re-start it but it just cranks and cranks and won't fire over. Started fine in the parking lot at work then randomly dies and now won't re-start...

Thinking spark? Just replaced the plugs two days ago with tr55's. Coil has less than prolly 50 miles on it. Got the opti from Larry from Speed Inc, he said it has very very low miles on it. I'm lost lol...

Any suggestions?

That happened to me a while back too. Turned out to be the fuel pump. Can you hear it priming when you put the key in the ON position?

Hmm... sounds familiar. Ended up replacing complete opti and ign. module. Not sure if that maybe the same for you. Same scenario when it croaked on me tho. On the way to work first thing and the morning then bam, ended up being late by a few hours. Good luck dude.

My car has only died on me twice like that. Both times it was the ICM.

Check fuses. Exact same senario for me was a blown ignition fuse due to a wire leaning on the header.

Same EXACT thing happened to me last week. I have MSD 6AL Ignition Control, and an MSD Coil with MSD Cap and Rotor........Cap and Rotor were installed just over a month ago. Took it to the shop they said spark was going INTO my opti, but NOTHING was coming OUT of it.

Turned out somehow my "brand new" MSD Cap and Rotor burned up. Might just be that, have someone check the input/output from your opti and see if it is getting/sending spark...if it is then at least you know its not your coil/distributor/cap/rotor/etc and can move to other things...if it is, problem solved.

You have no idea haha, i dunno why my car hates me so much lol

Well looks like i got alot of things to check-

-icm
-spark
-ignition fuse
-fuel pressure

fuel pressure and spark SHOULD be good, but with my luck i have no idea. Its just weird how it started up literally two mins before it died then now it won't start again lol.

Headed into work til 9 tonight so i'll see if i'm in the mood to mess with anything tonight.

Thanks guys

Ya i instantely thought the opti of course but like i said i got it from Larry and it has maybe 75 miles on it none of them over about 4-5,000 rpms as i have some problem that won't let the car pull past then. I highly doubt Larry would send me a crap opti lol.

my opti was brand new MSD cap/rotor, and brand new GM Distributor, no warning whatsoever. Driving fine at 55, no symptoms, then just died.....turned out to be a burned up cap/rotor...

I had that happen to me too. It was the aftermarket coil I put on it. I was just getting onto the thruway and it was like someone flicked a light switch, *click* and I was coasting. Luckily I still had the stock coil sitting in the back seat and swapped it out on the side of the road. Your problem definitly sounds spark related.

That would be real sweet if it was just the coil, what is the proper way to test the coil, and to test the opti? Like i said the plugs are brand new so i know those are fine. I could replace the wires but i dont think those are what caused this...
