Generally an aftermarket tach means it had the snot beaten out of it. Especially with a shift light on it. Means he had it up in the rpms quite often i bet.

LOL Its a performance orinted car of course its been beat, good luck finding one that hasn't.

I wouldn't pull a head unless its leaking coolant, just pull the drivers side valve cover and see if its got guide plates or aftermarket rockers. Also a dyno tune may be a good start, or just drive it and build what you want.

BTW post some pics for us

Ill get up pics/vid later today. Not to much to look at.

The flowmaster sounds pretty decent imo, but ill still be getting rid of it for a less restricitive option. Not quite sure my route yet, I liked the TSP on my 98 I use to have, so might go that route if I dont do the true duals. The edlebrocks will be going to inplace for pacesetters.

Pyro, I may just take that offer up on ya. Ill let you know after this weekend if I cant find a place to do it up here.

Then a video walk around, I tried to set the camera under the engine to see if anyone could identify a "pin knock", and I apologise for the quality. My camera doesnt have a good mic or apparently auto adjust to light. It was even clouded over... pos.

At the start of the movie you can see the 1000rpm difference between the two tachs.

Hey:

Get a mechanics stethoscope(harbor freight) and check the alt, ps drive and ac comp. It almost sounds like one of them when they start going bad.
The scope will at least narrow it to the area its in, valve covers, belt drive stuff or main block/oil pan

Hope this helps

I'll look at your car for free bro. it sounds like ac compressor to me? Id have to hear it in person. And I Happen to have a good one for sale. Your car has 30# injectors in it and oil pans been painted so there is a chance its a 383 but it sounds pretty stock from the vid.

ok I was unaware that egr with !cats was even necessary/possible. My bad. The very first thing I said in my post was "IMO" and that is exactly what it was. Sorry if I offended you. Now to the the OP....I think you got a great deal..if the car runs good then it shouldn't matter if its a 383 or not..although it still would be GOOD to know for future reference. Even with a stock LT1 I think that car was totally worth what you paid for it. Atleast from what I could tell in the pics. It looks really good!!!

Also it sounds like possibly a 383 with a very very small cam. all of the above is IMO

Hey:

Before you remove the ds valve cover, check the computer and see if it has any tuner info on it, that with the vin go back to the last tuner and see if he still has the profile that would tell you most of what you need to know.

Also I too think you did ok, pics look good, just drive it and enjoy it, as a Z28 that is cool.

How the hell do I check the computer? Probably take it to a tuner right, pay em somewhere around $100 to pull the info?

So is the 30# injectors a good thing? Or do people using go with something else.

Pyro, would a sunday evening work for you by any chance?

Lastly, if for some reason it comes out to be just a 350, is there any legal action I can take agaisnt the dealership? Not that a 350 would be a bad thing, but just under the pretense of false advertisement something like that...

I wouldn't bother going after the dealer...especially if you are happy with the car overall. You didn't get 'screwed' from what I can tell in pictures. besides, I'm sure you bought it "AS-IS No Warranty expressed or Implied". The 30# injectors are fine to about 350hp I believe...but you can always raise the fuel pressure with lower injectors or adjust the duty cycle on larger injectors for your specific application...would need a dyno tuner to do that though. Your car came with 24# injectors stock, so you are upgraded from that for sure. As far as finding out if you have cpu work, you would need someone with a laptop or a dyno tuner to plug in an check it out for you...I don't think it should be $100 to just plug in and see, but I don't know as mine has a "PROM chip" and all I have to do is see if there is a piggy back chip in there.

Sunday evening works for me. I also have tunercats so I can look at your tune and tell you if its been programmed for a 383. Not sure if my cable will work with your car though?

Being a 95 the car should be OBDI, 96 is when it became mandetory for all cars to have OBDII. I think some pre-96 cars have OBDII right? Ill have to run out and check next time I run the dog out. Any sunday is good with me though, just let me know what works and will exchange information and arrange a time. I really appreciate the help. Now if you just had an !a/c delete kit instead of a compressor.

But the 95s used an obdII port with a obdI computer and he has a 94 which used the obdI port

But you might have an early model 95 and it might have the obdI port???
