Default Camaro Z28 or SS?

I'm about to get my very first car and my friend goes to those car auctions that car dealers go to.He said that he would help me find a car. This is good since he said I can get a car for about half of what dealer's charge.I really like camaro's and was wondering if I should try to get a Z28 or SS.To tell the truth I know jack **** about either. What year should I look for also?I know a decent amount about imports but have no knowlege with domestics.I plan on adding some mods on this car.I would like to get in the 11's and 10's eventually.Could I do this with either of these? Also, could you give me some links about each motor these car has and any other links you think would be helpful for me.I'm trying to learn as much as I can about these cars. Also,is there anything better then a camaro I should look at?

Z28 and SS are essentially the same thing. If I were you, I'd get a 98+ LS1 motored car. LS1s can hit 10's easily with a power adder.

There basically the same huh?Could you still recomend one?Cause in imports some models are very similar, but they have those little differences that always have some kind of affect in performance.I'm sure this applies to domestics too.So a 98+.I'll remember that.Could you post some links with info on these engines? What are the times for a complete stock Z28 usually?

Z28's run better in a straight line than SS's do...whereas SS's run better than Z28's in the slalom...

The only big differences are the suspension and, from LT1 to LT1 ('93-'97), SS's have a bit more horsepower and torque stock...

Same goes for LS1's ('98-'02). SS's (Super Sports) have a bit more horsepower and torque than Z28's do...

true what faceless said, but the differences are so small that they matter nothing once you start modding. If money doesn't matter, get the SS because of the nameplate. I always with I could say "My SS"... plus they've got the hood and spoiler.

If you've got a cash limit, then get the Z28 and put the extra money into mods.

faceless is right... you should check around some basic sites like autotrader and stuff. All F-Bodies (except verts) have been hatchbacks since the early 80's.

Most people are going to tell you 95 is the best year to grab a Z28 (SS was not yet available until late 95 as a 96 model). OBD1 and vented optispark are the main reasons. OBD1's are a lot easier to tune plus LT1 Edit is almost half of what it costs for the OBDII cars (96+). If not a 95 then try for a 97 Z28 or SS. Tri colored tail lights and current dash configuration.

The other guys are right, SS and Z28s are the exact same car except minor things. Doesnt matter which you one you want.
