97 formula ws6, 6.0lq4 or rebuild lt1??
i know it's a rare car, but it has 174,000miles now and i think any value from it being rare might be gone. However, i want it faster, more reliable, easier to obtain parts. I have an 89 TA with the 305tbi, which would probably get the LT1 drivetrain. Questions are, do i need a LS1 k-member for the 6.0 motor? Will a 2wd 4l60e out of a truck fit? Will the stock 6.0 intake fit under the ram air hood or will i need an LS1or LS6 intake instead. What all would need to be done to the rest of the drivetrain for the 6.0 swap? Fuel pump? Lines? I want a 350hp motor for right around $2000, i know rebuilding the LT1 and bolt ons to get that number will be over $2000. Any other ideas???

A two wheel drive 4l60e should fit. By the way are you putting in a vortec 6.0 liter motor or a ls2? personally i would rip out the tbi motor and stick in a carburated 350 motor. those are really easy to find parts for and the parts are cheap.

the motor is going into the 97 ws6, if i go with an LSX motor, then i'll just put the lt1 in my 89trans am. I would be using the Vortec 6.0 motor. Saw a build on horsepower TV, with the stock intake it made 386hp. 350hp or more is fine for me in the 97. Just trying to figure out the best hp/$

thanks, was hoping the ram air hood would give enough clearance for the taller factory intake. I've already located 2 6.0's under $1,000 with harness and computer. What all other costs are there? LS1 intakes are usually around $200 or less and i can get an LS k-member for $100. I work at a dealership in parts, so i'm taking advantage of as many discounts as i can get. Just want one bad *** daily driver that won't be dying on me.

Lets see you will also need a few LS2 Items, the Truck Manifold most likely will not fit but if you can get it too KEEP IT. If you can not stick with the LS2 its 200 max and you have to use the right O Rings but a very good option.
Now you will need the following for sure:
LS1 Oil Pan
LS2 Timing cover and Timing Setup (I was told this when looking to do the same thing)
All the Car Accessories off any F-Body LS1.
If you want AC you need the lines I believe, but I think you might be able to get around this I was going to try too.
Now on another note, I have been watching LQ4's and LQ9's and here loaded an LQ4 does not top 900 an LQ9 does not top 1300. Get the LQ9, higher compression great NA motor and still beefed up inside. Just my personal thoughts. I will be buying a 3rd Gen and doing this myself as a side project over the next 2 years.
Either way the wiring will be interesting but you can get it done. Umm... damit whats his name... Merv I believe it is will be your BEST resource he has done this talk too him he has a lot of write ups. (Merv is his name on LS1tech)
Can't wait to see your progress.

well i'm guessing everyone is telling me to go with the LSX motor, not one thing about rebuilding the LT1. I know a nice engine kit from summit and machine work would be over $1000 and that would just give me the same performance i have already. I will be installing LT's when i do the swap. With either the LQ4 or LQ9, how much would a good cam swap run? I know the LT1 motor cam swap can top $1000, is the LSX any cheaper? Saw something about weak rod bolts leading to problems, what brand would be best to avoid that problem? The $2000 budget isn't set in stone, if i could pull 400hp for not too much over and have a bulletproof motor, what all would i need?
